This is one of my favorate episodes of this show, and the fact it was written by one of my favorate writers Paul Dini makes this even cooler. It's true that this episode kinda takes it's cues from "Harry Potter" though I think also from Orion Scott Card's book "Ender's Game" so it's nothing exactly new but everthing done right, and I'm hoping more of each character's past is explored.

Though I'll admit this episode is also really sad because poor Lance just gets crap canned thoughout most of the episode. From this gang of bullies and the leader whom is a guy I just wanted to kneecap cause he is just a total buttface to Lance from begining to end for just no reason. Even some nerd that is his friend abandons him. On a side note I'm hoping that the leader of the game is going to be a supervillian in the show latter, I could see it where he assended in the ranks but turned traitor.

Lance thoughout the episode is quiet he hardly says much but he doesn't need to say anything because you can see the pain thoughout his eyes. From the fact that he had to endure the loss of his parients at a young age and all the crap at the school he has to put up with.

Though one of my favorate moments was when he was in some lazer tag game and Lance was able to beat not just the opposing team but the gang that picked on him, all with his wits and cunning, I thought that was gradifing because he was about to receive an honorary award. Unfortunately the victory doesn't last from what happen at the end with Lance I thought was kinda heartbreaking.

Lance unfortunately gets thrown in jail for fighting against the leader of that gang and doesn't get the award, and the leader gets out scott free. I'll admit that made me mad at that acadaemy and the king, I mean the leader was litterally trying to kill Lance with live round weapons and Lance was unarmed so he had no choice but to get in that mecha and fight, what the hell else was Lance supposed to do, when your life is in danger you have to defend yourself by any means nessasary. And of course the King gives a small lecture to Lance about how both Lance and his father are similar and dissimilar, I love what Lance said at the end and Lance is right we can't grow up to be like our parients, yes we may inherit some of their characteristics but that doesn't make us them, we have to find and become our own person.
