They say necessity is the mother of invention, and few situations rival military necessity. What is surprising is how often solutions to military problems turn out to be useful in everyday life. TACTICAL TO PRACTICAL is a new one-hour program from The History Channel that explores innovations developed for combat that have evolved into useful tools for civilian life. Hosted by Hunter Ellis, former Navy Officer and SURVIVOR contestant.moreless

  • A fascinating close-up look at modern technology developed for military use that is now available to the general public.

Hunter Ellis (ex US Navy fighter pilot) demonstrates various technologies that were developed for military use and shows how the same technology is now used in civilian products. For example, metal tracks were developed for tanks, as superior to wheels in muddy environments and going over uneven surfaces. Now these same tracks are used on bulldozers and other earth moving equipment.

Some items are very high tech; others are low tech, more every day things. Some of the technologies are still being developed.

This is a very interesting show which stimulates your imagination. The whole thing is made more fun because Hunter is clearly enjoying himself so much. His excitement when he talks about the new technologies is contagious.moreless
