  • A failing magician learns the hard way that a true magician never reveals his best secrets...

Really, there isn't much to say about this one. It had a lot going for it in terms of the atmosphere, the characters, and the music, but the story just seemed to fall a little flat, which made it hard to get into. The actors did what they could (and hammed it up big time) with the material they were given, but it was hard to make this episode engaging.

I have to give it an A for effort: it really did have all of the trappings of a really fine episode, but in the end, it was just lacking a certain...magic?moreless
  • a magician murders a fellow magician to still his trick.

    7.8
I really liked this episode. This is one of my fifth season favorites. A magician may learn his leason not to steal and not to murder as his plan back fires at him. I is a very predictiable episode. I knew what was going to happen before it did. There were really no suprises but nonetheless it was a great episode. Anyway the magician who is failing at his job sees this box of death tricks, and thinks he just has to have this trick, so he kills for it, or so he thinks. This is really a good episode that I will watch again.moreless

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • The two French sentences spoken on the Crypt Keeper's tape translate to "What time is it"? and "Where is the window"?

    • This is the second episode in which an actor is credited three separate times for playing three roles. The first was Tim Curry in the season five episode, "Death of Some Salesmen".

    • Crypt Keeper Wardrobe: In the opening and closing wraparound segments, the Crypt Keeper is dressed as a french artist.

  • QUOTES (1)

    • [Opening wraparound segment with the Crypt Keeper learning French.]
The Crypt Keeper: (tape: Quelle heure est-il?)Killer est-il?...(tape: Ou est la fenêtre?)...Boo, est la fenêtre?...[laughs] Bonsoir, kiddies. I was just in the middle of my French lesson. Your pal, ze Crypt Keepere', has decided to see le monde! Imagine me, in gay Scary, sitting in a nice little cafe on the rot bank, sipping a glass of cha-bleed, while I write ghostcards home to all my fiends. [laughs] Or, I can stay home and tell you tonight's tale. It concerns an ambitious young magician who wants to expand his gore-izons, too, in a tasteless trick called, "Well Cooked Hams".

[Closing wraparound segment with the Crypt Keeper as a French artist.]
The Crypt Keeper: Poor Miles. Just when he's reading to take the hacked on the road, he ends up on the silver scream. Still, I think he deserves another chance to get it right. You know what they say: if at first you don't succeed; die, die again! [laughs] As for me, kiddies, I'm just about ready to go. Got my passport, my die-tinnerary, and my ticket for the con-gore. All I need now are my shots. [brings gun to mouth; fires] Ain't travel a blast? [laughs]
