Joe Turkel is very good in this cautionary tale of hero worship gone awry. As the has-been magician, he's proud yet vulnerable, with just the right amount of intensity. This is a story for those who want to believe in magic, and who cringe whenever they see an old hero dragged down by time, circumstance, and past tragedy. Cynthia Frost is very effective as the magician's assistant, who knows his terrible secret yet stands by him, even though he's down and out. If you sympathize, this one will make you think twice the next time you want to catcall a performer who's past their prime. Great ending.
