  • A family makes up a story about a monster from the north pole named the Grither.

    9.8
This was a great episode and it is exactly why I watch Tales. The family was kind of oddball and the parents made up lots of stories, and as it shows in the begining one of them comes true. Whenever they tell the children that if they say Santa Claus isn't real on Christma's Eve all there toys will break shortly afterward. So . . . what happens when the kids enter the living room: The toy train is burning and it is on top of one of the kids presents, but he gets to open it then. Well time passes by and the children are soon bored of there new presents so they ask there parents to tell them a story. When there father first starts telling them of the Grither--who lives in the North Pole in the darkest cave on earth, unlike that of Santa's workshop--the story gets more elaborate through the episode. I wont spoil the ending, but I think it could have been more bloody. The ending is great, but in my opinion needed more gore. Watch it and see what you think.moreless
  • Be careful what you wish for..

I can see why this episode is ranked so high, I finally got to watch this episode yesterday on one of those mini-marathons.

The kids acting like spoiled brats were put in their places when their parents tells them that story. The building up towards the end was pretty good and it was nice to see the kids scared for their lives.

In the end, the monster's arms coming through the window was a nice touch to an already creepy episode. A shame the parents were killed for not believing their own story. But now the kids learned their lesson the hard way.

And this is certainly not your average Christmas episode.moreless
  • A father tells his grandchildren a fairy tale on christmas, about a demonic winged monster that lives in the north pole.

This a special christmas story of TFDS, it's about a family, and two kids, having a happy christmas together, everything's going well, until the kids, ask for a story from their father, the father is a very old man (I don't understand that), but anyway, the father decides to tell them a very GRIM story, about a demon-like creature that lives in the North Pole, called Grither. What's really scary about this episode, it really makes you think nothing bad is going to happen, because their in a house on Christmas, what could possibly happen? Also, I like this episode because it slowly progresses, with the evil building up, but you don't see the results of it until the very end, classic horror, at it's absolute finest, the use of evil situation that keeps getting worse and worse, but a mundane or ironic situation or twist covers it up, or keeps under wraps until the end. I won't give anyway the ending, but let's just say the fairy tale, definitely came to life, and not just for the kids.moreless
  • Scary Christmas story episode.

I hadn't seen this episode in almost 20 years! I left my VCR recording a marathon of Tales from the Darkside and fast forwarded through most of them. Then suddenly what do I see... This episode! I was so happy to have finally found it.

It was amusing to see this again after so many years. I did laugh at it some. The kids presents are unrealistic (She wants things like Crayons and bunny slippers, and he wanted an Atlas). Now if it had been stuff like GI Joe and Barbie yeah I'd believe it more.

One thing that struck me as being a little off was the dad. He looks old enough to be the mothers own father. Guy's the guy is loaded or something. Anyway the acting was pretty good in this one. It is well written and highly amusing. It was worth the 20 year wait to see it again.moreless
