  • Sarah receives a mysterious Ancient Egyptian trunk that her father had discovered shortly before he was murdered two years previously. Shortly after, her ex-fianc arrives on the scene, searching for the temple of Amon-Ra. Pretty good...moreless

    This review contains minor spoilers.

Some people regard 'Trunk From the Past' as a classic episode from the series. I do like it, although it probably wouldn't make my personal Top 3.

It is nice to get more of a backstory on Sarah, and strong backstories are something that Donald P. Bellisario series always do very well.

As soon as Sarah's ex-fianc (or as he sees it, still fianc) appears on the scene, we the audience instantly suspect that he is up to no good. As sure enough, he isn't.

The plot is a good one, although I did feel that the first two thirds of the episode were maybe a bit stretched out, and I would have liked to have seen more time instead go to the expedition of the Egyptian temple of the later stages of the story. This final section, while good, does feel slightly rushed to me, and could have been fleshed out a bit more.
The episode has some good character moments, and I particularly like Jack the dog being treated as a God and him happily going along with it!

As I say, not one of my all-time favourite 'Gold Monkey' episodes, but a perfectly decent one in itself. I give 'Trunk From the Past' a reasonable 8.5 out of 10.moreless
