Tom alternates between calling his editor "Fred" and "Frank."
This episode is based on the short story "What You Need" by Henry Kuttner and C.L. Moore. This story was first published in Astounding Science Fiction (October, 1945).
This episode was later remade as an episode of The Twilight Zone.
Tom: Would you mind telling me what business you're in?
Peter: Yes, I would.
Tom: I could check you through the Better Business Bureau.
Peter: As you wish.
Tom: In the past two days, I have seen people walk out of here with, let me see... an egg, a pair of rubber gloves, a test tube, and now a gun. Rather a weird assortment, wouldn't you say?
Peter: I would indeed.
Peter: You labor under a misapprehension. I cannot map out your future. Every man has several possible futures. The specific future that is yours must be your own free choice.
Tom: You claim you're not interested in money, you're not interested in playing God. You're just doing it for mankind. You're saving the needy. Well I won't gamble that you love this little game of yours and will get rid of anything that will get in the way, and I'm in the way.
Peter: So you are.
Tom: Publicity will ruin you. And I'm just the guy to do it. I subscribe to your service, my price for silence is the future. I want to know what tomorrow will bring. I want what I need!
