    ** SPOILER ALERT **

Plot - After saving a girl from a tribe of gorillas, Tarzan must cross the territory of the city of her enemy in order to return her to her own city. After some trouble during a storm by the river, Tarzan is captured, chained, brought before the queen, and sent to the colosseum, where he defeats a larger gladiator but spares his life. The queen is attracted to Tarzan but throws him back into prison in a jealous rage when he saves the girl from the rival city from a hungry panther in the colosseum. Tarzan and the girl escape with the help of the large gladiator whom he saved earlier at the colosseum.

Once one accepts an ancient Roman city in the modern African jungle, one is left with an excellent parable about looking beyond nationalistic stereotypes with a rich supporting cast and a reaffirmation of the Golden Rule.

The queen is a wonderfully complicated villainess -- beautiful, rich, witty, passionate, jealous, and attracted to Tarzan. There is also a foppish chief minister and a memorable gladiator with a heart of gold. A pretty girl from the rival city also raises the stakes.

Encountering a golden city, fighting a large gladiator in the colosseum, being tempted by a rich and beautiful queen, and escaping imprisonment in a dingy dungeon provide excellent tension. Helping a pretty girl return home raises the stakes.

Tarzan in trouble - The riverbank collapses due to a falling tree, and Tarzan falls into the water. After returning to the riverbank, with the help of some gorillas, Tarzan is discovered by some soldiers, placed in a prison cell, and brought before the queen with his ankles in chains. Fighting for his life in the colosseum, the gladiator throws a banner over Tarzan and places him in a double overhook bear hug from behind. After revealing his friendship with the girl from a rival city, Tarzan is placed in a prison cell.

Saved by animals - Trying to escape a waterfall, Tarzan grabs a vine and is pulled to the riverbank by a tribe of gorillas.

    Grade - A-
