Tears of the Amazon

Show Summary

Tears of the Amazon is a 2010 Korean documentary feature and the follow-up to 2008's acclaimed documentary Tears of the Arctic that introduces viewers to seven aboriginal tribes living in the Amazon and examines the effects that direct contact with the modern world and global warming have had on these native people. Korean drama star Kim Nam-Gil (Queen Seon Duk) narrates this illuminating documentary that goes beyond the issues facing any one country and tells a story that's relevant to everyone in the world. Each tribe observed in this film has developed differently as a result of Western interaction, and by offering a comparison and contrast between them this film offers a unique perspective on how the world is changing. Some tribes, like the Mati, have changed greatly as a result of their interaction with modern civilization. Others, like the Zoe, have avoided all contact with outward influence in order to maintain their traditional lifestyle. Additionally, this film examines how the environment has changed in recent years, and the effect it has had on these tribes.moreless
