Mumbo/Any Card/Stagehand Mumbo/Hecklers
Mobo likes rabbits example: Sum of his parts he hits raven with stuffed rabbits then in the same episode a mailbox starts shooting them out of the mail shoot
Beast Boy's transformations: alligator, mammoth, pterodactyl, mouse, duck, dog, lamp, telephone, air horn, phone booth, stock ticker, record player, help sign, plate on a stick.
During Robin's performance, numerous items are dropped, including two that normally wouldn't fit in the entire theater, much less the stage. These two items were the airplane and the cruise ship.
The bank teller that Mumbo had tied up at the beginning was the video store worker from "Fear Itself."
When the Titans (excluding Raven) were fighting the "hand police," why didn't Beast Boy turn into a truck or a weapon of some sort rather that bouncing around uselessly?
Since Mumbo didn't seem to remember that Beast Boy can turn back after he changes him, why didn't he keep his mouth shut? It would make at least one of the team fully capable of their powers, at least for while.
A second before the Titans escape, they are covered with paint - a second after, the paint is cleaned off. This may be attributed to the spell being broken, but still...
When Cyborg is turned into a bear, his left ear is a little light bulb.
How could telephone Beast Boy see anything?
Usually, when Raven chants "Azarath Metrion Zinthos" her chakra doesn't glow black, but in this episode when she is a bunny stuck in the cage trying to get out, her chakra glows black.
In "The Sum of His Parts," the source of Mumbo's power was apparently his wand - but here, it seems to be his hat.
When Beast Boy turned from a lamp into a telephone, where was the light coming from?
During Beast Boy's portion of the act, Mumbo spins him with three normal white plates. He then drops four white plates, leaving only Beast Boy.
Random Audience: (to Borgy the Cybear) Nice tutu, jerk!
Raven: If you're so amazing, Mumbo, then what do you need me for?
Cyborg: (Discovering that he is wearing a tutu) Aww, man, I can take losing a fight, but this is just mean!
Mumbo: (To Raven) If you look like a rabbit, and hop like a rabbit, then guess what, kid? You're really a rabbit! (Plucks a whisker off Raven's nose)
Mumbo: For real!
Cyborg: We're trapped inside a hat being manhandled by gloves, what next?
Beast Boy: (As a phone, speaking to Cyborg) HELLO! What have you got to complain about? I'm a lamp! And what's wrong with being an animal, anyway? At least you guys have legs, I can't even move! And do you have any idea how hot a light bulb gets... (Cyborg hangs up)
Mumbo: Oh, I just LOVE a captive audience!
Robin: They may be captive now, but you're the one who's getting locked up!
Robin: (To Beast Boy, who's a telephone) I'm gonna have to put you on hold.
Beast Boy: (As a phone) Hey! Let me help! I can crank-call 'em!
Mumbo: If you can't beat Mumbo... join Mumbo!
Cyborg: Hang on a second! We're inside Mumbo's hat, and Raven is inside Mumbo's hat, inside Mumbo's hat?!
Beast Boy: DUDE! You're making my brain hurt!
Beast Boy: I got it!
Cyborg: It can't involve tanks or man-eating sharks.
Beast Boy: I don't got it.
Robin: Sorry, Starfire. I must have stepped on your foot...
Starfire: I believe it was my... tail...
Beast Boy: (Being attacked by giant hands) Guys? Can I get a hand? (Giant hands start clapping) AHHH, KILLER GLOVES!!
Mumbo: So tell me, kid, how'd you do it?
Raven: A magician never reveals her secrets. (Takes Mumbo's hat, flips it, and wears it on her head, with her raising an eyebrow and a slight smile)
Beast Boy: Oh, yeah? Well whatcha gonna do to me? I can already turn into animals!
Magician #1: What do you get when you cross a magician and a camera?
Magician #2: A hocus focus! (Turns other guy's head into camera)
Starfire: What happened?
Cyborg: He made me do a jig!
Starfire: (Gasps) NO! THAT MADMAN MUST BE STOPPED! ... Please, what is a jig?
Starfire: I do not like being a cat in this hat!
(Raven's in a tornado, reaches for Robin)
Beast Boy: DUDES!!!
Robin: (About Mumbo turning huge) The bigger they are, the harder they fall.
Cyborg: (To huge Mumbo) You may be livin' large, but this will cut you down to size!
Beast Boy: Why does that bunny sounds like Raven... ?
Raven: Because I am Raven.
Starfire: Oh! You look so cute!
(Raven turns angry)
Mumbo: This will teach you not to headlink the headliner. Presto Chango.
Raven: (Is now a white bunny) Super....
Raven: (To Mumbo) Cute trick, ready to see some real magic?
(About Beast Boy, whom he just "hung up")
Cyborg: Hey, I think we just found a way to shut BB up!
(Beast Boy turns into air horn, and makes the sound of a fog horn)
Starfire: I cannot fly, and my starbolts are furry!
Puppet Mumbo: Two minutes to showtime Mr. Amazing... you're great, I love you.
Cyborg: At least Mumbo left me with my sonic cannon... (Short pause) Bang?... Oh, dang.
Beast Boy: (To Robin) Yes, you have no bananas!
Raven: You pulled that out of your sleeve.
Mumbo: Must you over-analyze everything? (Pulls off sleeves and birds still appear) Why don't you just sit back and enjoy the show?
Raven: Because it isn't real, your act, this hat. It's all smoke and mirrors. You probably hypnotized me to think I'm a rabbit, and when I get home my nose will twitch every time a bell rings.
Cyborg: (Angry) Oh! Wait until I get my claws on that Mumbo! (Pauses) Did I just say claws? Oh, man!
Starfire: At least you don't have the fleas... (Scratches)
Lyrics to "Master of Your Fate"
Five, six, seven, eight
Don't bother getting up, your in my control.
No way for you to fuss and fight.
I've taken all your powers, so lucky you.
You will be in my show tonight.
You think you can defeat me, oh, how very drool.
Well, Titans one thing you should know:
I am the one with magic powers 'round here.
I am the one who runs the show!
I am the master of ceremonies,
so let me set you straight.
With just a wave of my magic wand,
I'm master of your fate!
With just some hocus pocus and slight of hand,
you all are under my command.
Put them in their cages, keep them all apart.
Puppet Stage Manager:
Places everybody! The show's about to start!
He is the master of ceremonies,
so let him set you straight
With just a wave of his magic wand
He's master of your fate!
Master of your fate!
Master of your fate!
Master of your fate!
Now for the greatest grand finale,
and the reason why you're here!
Tonight, I will make the Titans disappear...
(Beast Boy prints out a strip of paper)
Robin: (Reading) Mumbo's got eyes in the back of his hat. Beast Boy's right!
(Beast Boy prints out a strip of paper that boldly says "THANK YOU")
Mumbo is in only 2 episodes: "Sum of His Parts", a cameo in "Aftershock 2" and in "Bunny Raven or How to Make a Titananimal Disappear."
YTV airdate: March 31, 2005.
The animals the Titans were transformed into, with the exception of Raven, were chosen to reflect comic trivia about them. Robin used to be a circus acrobat, so a monkey was the obvious choice. Starfire's race, the Tamaranian's, evolved from felines. When Cyborg was destroyed the first time in the comic, a Russian research base revived an updated version of him as Cyberion; thus the dancing Russian bear gag.
Look Hard: After Robin reads the message Beast Boy "said" while turned into an old-style stock ticker, you can see part of the ticker tape; it says "Thank You."
CGI Computer Animation is used on the ship when it falls down on the stage and is turned into a flock of birds.
The title is a parody of the Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons. At the end of each segment, the narrator says "Be sure to tune in next time as ::insert title:: or... ::insert alternative title::"
All the people in Mumbo's hat look like Mumbo.
When the enormous cruise ship falls during Robin's "act," you can see that the ship is named "Iceburg." This is obviously a reference to the Titanic, which sank in April 1912 after hitting an iceburg on its way to New York.
Marks the very first musical number with lyrics sung by one of the characters (Mumbo).
Running Gag: Cyborg constantly trying to take his tutu off only to reappear with another tutu.
In this episode, Raven is Mumbo's "assistant."
While he is on stage, you can see a brief shot of monkey Robin picking his nose.
Mumbo seems to be channeling The Joker even more so in this episode than in his last appearance.
This whole episode (or most of it) takes place in Mumbo's hat.
In this episode (after being turned into a lamp/telephone), Beast Boy can turn into lamps and telephones.
Opening theme song is in Japanese. This marks two times in a row that the theme song was in Japanese.
As a cat, Starfire's fleas have Mumbo's head in place of their own heads.
Look Hard: While Mumbo is robbing the bank, you can see the cashier from "Fear Itself" in the background.
Beast Boy turned into other items other than a lamp. These items are: telephone, bullhorn, megaphone, flag that said 'help', phonograph record player, a plate and spinning stick, and a paint brush.
One of the old men in the balcony is modeled after character designer, Derrick Wyatt. Derrick has also 'appeared' in two previous episodes.
Team episode (more of a Raven episode).
Mumbo turns the Titans into:
Robin - monkey
Starfire - cat
Cyborg - circus bear
Raven - bunny
Beast Boy - lamp
In addition to being turned into animals (and things), the Titans' powers are messed up.
Robin - His technology is turned into bananas.
Starfire - She can't fly and her starbolts are hairballs.
Cyborg - His sonic cannon is turned into a cartoon-ish gun that emits a "Bang" sign.
Beast Boy - He can't turn into animals, but he can turn into objects. His base form is a lamp instead of a human.
Raven - Her magic backfires on her, doing things like tying her ears in a bow.
Mumbo turns Cyborg into a bear which he calls Borgi the dancing bear, this is a reference to the main character of 1961's Hanna-Barbera cartoon, Yogi Bear.
This episode bears a very similar story to that of the Justice League episode "This Little Piggy," where Wonder Woman is turned into a pig. The female magician also performs many tricks with her hat that are similar to Mumbo's.
Robin: Batman (1966)
When alone in that "dark room," Robin mentions that they have to get out of there while slamming his fist into his palm and monkey feet fist into his monkey feet palm. A reference to the 1966 Batman series when Robin would constantly slam his fist into his palm.
This episode's plot is reminiscent of the Sid and Marty Kroft television serial Lidsville, which revolved around a boy who became trapped in a bizarre magical world contained inside a magician's hat.
Beast Boy: The Great Bluedini
When Beast Boy talks about The Great Bluedini, he is obviously giving Mumbo a nickname after the famous magician and escape artist, The Great Houdini.
The Maestro Mumbo that plays the piano right before the "Master of Your Fate" musical number begins resembles the American entertainer, Liberace. Liberace was a flamboyant, classically trained piano player who performed from the 1950s up to the 1980s. Many people alledged he was a homosexual, a claim he continuously denied (though it is now known that he was). He died of AIDS in 1987 in Palm Springs, CA.
Episode: Alice in Wonderland
This episode has many quotes and actions that resemble things from Alice in Wonderland (the book). For example, Any Card says, "Must you always ask stupid questions?," this is almost (if not) exactly what the Griffon asks Alice. Also, when Mumbo's musical number is over, he disappears, leaving only his grin. This action is exactly like the Cheshire cat's disappearance.
The two hecklers in the box seat during Mumbo's show bear a passing resemblance to Statler and Waldorf, the famous (or infamous) Muppet Show hecklers. The Mumbo hecklers even act like the Muppet duo. During the run of the Muppet Show, the pair would sit in a box seat and hurl insults at just about anyone on stage, though usually their target was Fozzie Bear. In the original pilot, and in the short lived Muppets Tonight series, they heckled the performers through their television set. In a side note, Waldorf's wife was called "Estoria" and bore a resemblance to Statler.
Episode Title: Bunny Raven or How to Make a Titananimal Disappear
This is a reference to the episode titles of the old cartoon series, Rocky and Bullwinkle.
Beast Boy: Yes, you have no bananas!
What Beast Boy says to Robin is from an old song.
References: The Muppets
There were actually many Muppet references in this episode. Which included the Gonzo one previously listed, the two old guys in the theater (Waldorf and Statler) mocking the acts, among various others.
Mumbo Puppet Stagehand: Five minutes until showtime, people.
The Mumbo Puppet Stagehand pretty much is like Scooter from The Muppet Show.
One of the Mumbo signs has his face in the center and blue circles in the back, resembling a Looney Tunes poster.
Starfire: I do not like being a cat in this hat!
This may be a reference to Dr. Seuss' "The Cat in the Hat."
Mumbo: Silly Rabbit...
When Mumbo says to Raven "Silly Rabbit, I choose when you come out," it sounds awfully close to the slogan for Trix cereal - "Silly Rabbit! Trix are for kids!" More Info
Episode: Mumbo Jumbo
As this is an episode with Mumbo Jumbo, who is a magician, the classic trick is to "pull a rabbit out of a hat." Apparently, this relates to how the Teen Titans get stuck in Mumbo's hat, or is just used as one of the regular allusional names (such as "Nevermore" or "Deep Six").
Mumbo: "Master of Your Fate" Musical Number
The whole musical number Mumbo sings is very similar to the musical number "You Ain't Never Had a Friend Like Me" from the Disney movie Aladdin. Some key similarities include dancing and singing gloves, and ascending a floating staircase, among others.
