  • The Only Thing To Fear...

    9.0
Such a good episode from season two! The plot buildup, the mystery, the introduction of Control Freak, Raven's character development and the representation of her powers - all wonderful and well-written! Great fun.
  • Terror in Teen Titans Tower.

    9.0
The opening introduces villain Control Freak, who works best in small doses, like here. The action is great and it's fun, after the fight the story switches tone and becomes a horror themed episode. I love horror movies, or used to love. The Titans expression when watching the movie was hilarious.

The monster is really creepy looking, with several mouths with razor sharp teeth all over his body, it can actually be a bit too scary for very young viewers, but then again maybe not, kids are tough these days. I liked how the Titans disappeared one by one in true slasher movie fashion. I would've liked the see another similiar horror episode, but more fun, referencing Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Hellraiser and such. But this one is fantastic as it is. I can't remember, but I think this was the first Teen Titans episode I saw. Raven gets the spotlight, and that's always great seeing as she's my second favorite Titan.

"Fear Itself" is an awesome episode with surprising amounts of suspense.moreless
  • Can Raven admit her fear before the shadows of her past become too much for her and her friends

    9.9
This episode is, well, fantastic. Control Freek isn't all that special but he was a good villan for the Titans. The main part of the movie focused on Raven. It got fairly obvious that Raven was creating those monsters after you saw the four Trigon like eyes on them. Fear was a fasinating topic for a Raven episode because hiding emotions isn't the same as contrling them. The movie created a spooky atmosphere for the Titans and gave Beastboy a chance to use a conspiracy theory. It was just a great episode that really developed Raven's character.

Overall: A fantastic episode with a brief introduction of control Freak and a fantastic epic on Raven's fear.moreless
  • Horror! Teen Titans style.

    10
This episode was so good. It was very scary at times too. We found out that Raven does actually get afraid and scared. Poor Raven, well at least her fellow Titans (and any of her fans) know now. Beast Boy was so funny in this episode, he always gives the show comedic stuff which many fans usually look forward to. This episode has to be a series classic! It had another nice "buzz" to it. It had a fantastic storyline and plot which I thought was very adventurous and imaginative. Overall, a series classic that any Teen Titans fan will totally enjoy.moreless
  • Well at first its kind of freaky and stuff but not really but then when all of them starting dissapearing it gets scary. A favorite episode with my fav character Raven.moreless

Ok first I liked this episode was cool cause Raven was the main character. I think this shows a little bit of a "you know its there but you never see it" side of Raven. I mean she's all freaked out and out of whack, which you never even see. It's cool. Even though if you know Raven's powers well enough its fairly obvious who(or what) does it. Even though I am a B.B.XRaven fan Beast Boy acts so weird and he deserves to be "taken" first. I mean for some reason this episode just feels short. In a good way. In the beggining when they are fighting Control Freak is was funny when Cyborg throws up when he eats the evil candy. Hilarious.moreless

  • TRIVIA (11)

    • When Raven was washed out of the elevator by the black liquid, she was covered with it. But at the next scene, she was clean again.

    • When Raven regains control over her powers, her eyes turn black instead of white.

    • When Beast Boy is getting all scared about splitting up and is telling the other Titans what the monster does, he pulls Raven's hood off, but she never put it on.

    • When Robin is in the evidence room, and is about to tell the rest of the Titans what is happening, he gets grabbed by the "monster." Starfire and Raven try to help, but get pushed away, so Cyborg grabs Robin's hand. Why didn't Robin's glove slip off? Cyborg was pulling pretty hard.

    • The elevator is almost filled with the black liquid when it opens. The camera angle shows the Titans living room, and Raven and the liquid spilling out of the main doors, apparently out of the elevator. Why, then, do all other episodes show that those doors lead to a hallway?

    • When Robin grabs Control Freak, you can see Control Freak's hair through the part of his shirt that Robin is holding.

    • Control Freaks' remote changes form and color from when he was using it to when the Titans search the evidence room.

    • After chasing Raven into the elevator, the bird-creature rams into its closed doors, making a huge dent. The elevator then begins to rise; however, the dent in the outer doors should have locked it in place.

    • When T-Rex Beast Boy roars at the animated shelves, all its videos fall off. When he rams it in the next shot, the videos are back on.

    • The Puppet King's controller is seen in the evidence locker, but it was previously destroyed in "Switched."

    • On the scene in which Cyborg helps Raven up at the end of the show, there is a shot of the Titans standing sideways before Raven. All the Titans, especially Cyborg (who you can see the best), are extremely unproportional; they're all the same height, and different parts of their bodies are disfigured.

  • QUOTES (30)

    • Raven: (With the monsters circling around her) I'm not afraid. I'm not afraid. I'm not afraid... I... I am afraid. (With eyes glowing black) But that doesn't mean I can't fight back! (Uses her powers, and starts fighting off the monsters; she then, after all the monsters are gone, passes out)

    • Control Freak: Well, well, well. If it isn't my old arch-nemesis... ses... the Teen Titans.
Beast Boy: Um... yeah. (to Cyborg) Who is this guy?

    • Evil Candies: (Attacking Cyborg) Eat him! Who's delicious now, big man?
Cyborg: Bad candy, bad candy! Get off! Hey, hey! Stop that! Stop! That's not yours!

    • Beast Boy: AAAAAAAAHH!!! Wicked Scary is out on video!!!
Control Freak: I know! Director's cut, deleted scenes, alternate ending!
Beast Boy: Cool. (Realizes he was talking to Control Freak) Not cool. (Control Freak has an evil look on his face and clicks button on remote)

    • Beast Boy: Split up?! SPLIT UP?! DID YOU NOT SEE THE MOVIE?! When you split up, the monster hunts you down one at a time, starting with the good-looking, comic relief guy, ME!

    • Beast Boy: (Over the tannoy) Robin, emergency! Get up here now!
      Robin: Report! What's the problem?
Beast Boy: The problem is it's show time! And you're not in your seat!

    • Starfire: Eeek! Someone's claws are on my grebnax!
      Beast Boy: Heh.. My bad..
Cyborg: There was a monster here, right?
Robin: But where did it go?
Starfire: And from where did it come from?
Beast Boy: HELLO! Isn't it obvious?! The movie's cursed! Watching it opened a portal to another dimension! The monster came through the portal, now it's gonna hunt us down and eat us! AND I'M PROBABLY DELICIOUS!

    • (Cyborg, Raven, and Starfire are going into the basement)
Starfire: Oh, well, our friends are not here. Let us quickly go back to see if they...
(Cyborg grabs her by the top of her head and yanks her off the stairs)
Cyborg: We're not leaving 'til we get to the bottom of this.
Starfire: This unpleasant room is not the bottom?

    • Cyborg: ALL RIGHT!! If y'all be bitin' Cyborg, then Cyborg's bitin' back! (Starts eating the evil candy) Mmm... Never knew evil tasted so good... (Evil candy disagrees with Cyborg's stomach) Oh, boy. (Quickly runs out of the Video Store and outside to a nearby trash can and vomits)

    • Starfire: Cyborg, are you sure you do not hunger for unhealthy sugar candies?
Cyborg: (Groan) ... Make it go away...

    • Beast Boy: Is it over?
Starfire: I dare not open my eyes to find out.
Cyborg: Now I'm really sick to my stomach.
Robin: I've fought psychotic villains, robot commandos, and giant oozing monsters, but that was the scariest thing I've EVER seen.

    • Beast Boy: This movie is cursed. All those who watch it, strange things happen to them. MWA-HAHAHAAHAHA!
      Raven: Just start the movie.

    • Raven: You don't scare me.
Beast Boy: (Runs by with cardboard monster following him) Look out, it'll eat your brains!!

    • Robin: It can't be worse than that documentary on hotdogs Starfire made us watch.
Starfire: It was fascinating, I never knew humans could eat so many pigs and insects!
(Cyborg's face turns green and starts to throw up behind the couch)

    • Robin: If it isn't Control Freak doing this, it must be - (Wicked Scary grabs him and pulls him through the wall as Cyborg tries to save him)
Cyborg: (Slams fist through wall after Robin disappears, then turns to Raven and Starfire) I don't suppose either of you know what he was about to say... ?

    • (Raven wakes up with a gasp and looks around her room; sees the dark, scary shadows)
Raven: Maybe I should consider redecorating...

    • Cyborg: Look, y'all, big scary monkey, hahaha.
Beast Boy: Yeah, Raven you should've seen the look on your face.
      Raven: You mean, THIS LOOK!
Beast Boy: No, that's more angry than scared..
Raven: I already told you, I don't get scared.

    • Cyborg: Sunrise. (Yawn) Time for bed.

    • Beast Boy: You mean, Raven made all those creepy-crawlies by ACCIDENT?!
      Raven: (Blushing) Uh... sorry?

    • Control Freak: My remote! I can't live without my remote!
Robin: (After defeating Control Freak) You ever think that you're watching too much TV?

    • Robin: The remote is still here.
Cyborg: Maybe he had an extra remote. I mean we got, like, nine.

    • Beast Boy: Admit it, you were totally scared!
      Raven: I don't do fear.

    • Beast Boy: You know, your haunted house was way cooler than that dumb, old movie... any chance you'd want to do it again for Halloween?
Raven: (After a pause) I'm afraid not...

    • Raven: I'm not afraid. I'm not afraid. (In a high, pitiful, squeaky voice) I'm not afraid!!

    • Beast Boy: (Being dragged into the darkness) What did I tell you? The funny guy goes first!

    • Cyborg: It's all right... don't be scared.
Raven: For the last time, I am NOT afraid...

    • Control Freak: I am the master of monsters! I am your darkest nightmares come to life. I am... (Pause for dramatic effect) ... Control Freak!
Raven: (Sarcastically) A couch potato with a souped-up remote... I'm petrified...
Control Freak: Oh, but you will be... you WILL be!

    • Cyborg: Ow! Ow! Bad candy, bad candy!

    • Beast Boy: This movie is going to freak-you-out.
      Raven: Whatever...

    • Control Freak: OK... Either you admit that Warp Trek V, which reunited the entire original cast of the classic TV series, deserves to be on your Favorite Rentals list, or...
Video Clerk: Please! I don't know what Warp Trek is!
Control Freak: And that, my little tribble, is why you must be destroyed!

  • NOTES (12)

  • ALLUSIONS (7)

    • Control Freak: Warp Trek V
When Control Freak is talking about Warp Trek V, there's a picture of one of the cast members in the background. He's green like Beast Boy. In the comics, Beast Boy played a green metamorph named Tork in a show called, Space Trek.

    • Cyborg: Bad day, bad day!
The titular character from the cartoon, Jackie Chan Adventures, says "Bad day, bad day!" a lot, usually whenever he's being chased/attacked by a large group of enemies.

    • Beast Boy: They say when you watch this video, strange things happen.
He was referring to the horror movie, The Ring. When people watched a specific video, that person died in one week.

    • Control Freak: And that, my little tribble, is why you must be destroyed!
This is a reference to the classic Star Trek episode "The Trouble With Tribbles." That episode featured tiny, furry alien creatures called "tribbles" that seemed harmless, but which reproduced endlessly when fed.

    • Robin: Batman Beyond
In the episode; "Revenant," Bruce Wayne gives the new Batman a small list of evil he had vanquished... witch boys, immortals, zombies, and demons. He refers to the "ghostly" happenings in the ep as "high school." Which is similar to Robin and his list.

    • Control Freak: Oh, but you will be... you WILL be.
This is an almost direct cut and paste of Yoda's famous line in The Empire Strikes Back.

    • Raven: (Comes crashing out of elevator)
When Raven is in the elevator, it fills with a black liquid. When the doors open, the liquid comes crashing out, Raven along with it. This resembles the part in The Shining where blood spills out of the elevator doors.
