  • Now THIS is dark and gritty!

Many TMNT fans were excited when we heard the reboot of TMNT was gonna resemble the original comics in being dark and gritty. When the show first aired in 2003, fans of the original series hated this for being dark and adult but true fans of the comics were ecstatic over this new incarnation.

THIS single episode is the culmination of everything the show was trying to achieve. Not only was it the most dark and dramatic episode in Animated programming at that time, but it also shined a new light for the character of Donatello as he gained character development to learn to appreciate his family more!

    True classic.moreless
  • The best TMNT episode.

I liked the New TMNT cartoon since it started its airing but it was never something above average for me. I liked it , but it didn't amaze me. Until this episode. Donatello is send into alternate reality which is ruled by Shreeder and Turtles are disbanded. The city is all ruined. That makes this episode kinda dark and making TMNT mroe s-f show than it ever was. The only bad thing about it was the duration... It only lasted for one episode. I wish they'hve made it into a longer story arc and show more flashbacks how that everything happened and Donatello trying to find a way to get back to his reality and how that happened that he's here. Alternate realities and time travel are things that give many possibilites and and it's poor that they made only one episode like that. But well, it was one hell of episode. Just epic.moreless
  • What an awesome episode, one of the best in the series, if not the best. A darker version of the turtles

I couldnt believe it when i saw this episode. I couldnt believe that there was actually a darker version of the turtles to be seen apart from the comics. Such an awesome episode, from Don's cybernetic enchancements that he created to the story of Leo and Raph to Mikey's arm being chopped off and his goofiness gone. Even April, Hun and Stockman were different. The only thing i would have wanted differently would have been the inlcusion of Splinter as an actual character rather than a memory but a great episode nonetheless. Really exciting to watch and very imaginative. A must watchmoreless
  • It\'s diffrent...

This episode was in my option a little depressing, but it was really interesting and I liked it all the same. Humar wasn\\\\\\\'t a major thing in it, actully it didn\\\\\\\'t really appear at all. Then again, it would be hard to be humourous when the world is controlled by an evil utrom and it is a sad when the turtles die.
  • My second favorite episode with action.

This episode has many death. That is what makes this episode the best. Except for Exodus Part 2. This episode has many interesting events. Bad guys join good guys, aliens get enslaved, resistance are formed, two brothers fight and hate each other, someone you know loses an arm, someone you love died, a horrible future; everything is so exciting. I love to watch it over and over because of the many deaths and action. The only thing that confused me the first time I watched it is that how did Donny fade away like Raph and Mikey? How did they?moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (7)

    • Stockman's jar (which contains his brain) is now attached to Hun's body.

    • From the size and shape of his coat, it looks as if Leo still has his shell; but with the coat on, we can't tell if his shell has been damaged or weakened. It is also possible that during the years, Karai has developed a sword that could slice through their shells.

    • Why did Karai remain totally unmarked, despite being shot directly with a futuristic rocket launcher?

    • Raph's good eye keeps movie. It starts off on the right, switches to the left during the first half of the final battle, then reverts back.

    • Karai's sword may be of special alien metal, or ordinary Earth steel rolled 700 times to increase its strength, to make it hard enough to penetrate a Turtle shell. However, re: Stockman and Hun--we learn the resistance fighters saved them five years before the events we see here, and three decades have blipped by...which means Baxter remained in the Shredder's employ for a quarter of a century. I got the impression Shredder would have crushed him years ago after all his repeated failures and betrayals. Although, this being an alternate dystopian reality, perhaps events before Donny dropped out of the time stream went differently as well. Or Shredder, in his infinite cruelty, decided death was too good for Baxter and dreamed this torture up instead.

    • Shredder is seen as his Utrom body residing in the Shredder based helment of his exoskeleton. When he speaks, though, the Shredder body voice comes from his moving mouth. Didn't the Utrom prisoner, aka Shredder, from Secret Origins have a different voice, though?

    • Baxter's eye is animated several times shown as being able to move around through the fluid inside its jar. It is only attached to his brain by the optic nerve. Without muscle and no other visible means attached, how can it move?

  • QUOTES (10)

    • Don: (after killing Future Shredder) My brothers, my poor brothers. This world, this future, it's a nightmare.
Future April: It was a nightmare Don, but you, Leo, Raph, and Mikey, you gave us back out future.
Don: (begins fading out) April! It's happening again! Something's pulling me away it's stronger this time!
Future April: Don! Just remember there's always hope no matter what! No matter what!
      Don: AHHHHHHHH! (fades out completly)
      Future April: And thank you.

    • Donny: (after Mikey died) Mikey. Noooooo!!! You'll pay Shredder! If it's the last thing I do, you will pay. (starts shooting) Auuughhhhh!!!
Shredder: (grabs Donny) 30 years it's been. And this is all you have? Truly pathetic. (breaks exo-suit's arm, making Donny fall) Disgusting creature. (kicks Donny)

    • (after Future Leo and Raph dies, April prepares to fire her bazooka)
Future April: Karai! End of the line.
(Karai charges after April, but April shoots a missle at Karai and hits her)
Karai: (tries to get up, but couldn't) Master. I am finished. (then dies)

    • Future Karai: (while fighting Leo) I beg you Leonardo, leave this place. Or you will force me of which my duty commands. (resumes fighting and throws Leo to a glass box)
Future Leo: Not this time Karai. This time you have to make a choice. Once and for all! (fights and beats Karai, picks up his sword) I'm sorry, Karai. But I never wanted it to be this way. (gets ready to slice Karai but slices a Karai bot, then gets sliced by Karai, then dies)
      Future Karai: Forgive me Leonardo.
Future Raph: Leo! NNNOOOOOO! (fights Karai but gets defeated, and crawls to Leo) Leo. Leo!! (tries to crawl one more time but dies)

    • Future Mikey: (after Hun gets stomped by Shredder) Come on! We have to buy Donny some more time! (beats up a couple of Karai bots then gets surrounded) Donny! Donny I--(gets sliced by all Karai bots) Aauuggghhhhhhhh!!!
      Donny: Mikey! Nooooo!

    • (future Leo comes into the resistence's base, then future Raph comes in)
Raph: What the shell are you doing here?
Leo: Raph? April's guys didn't say about you being here.
Raph: Oh, what's the matter, Leo? I remind you how you made us abandon Master Splinter, when he needed us most?!
Leo: It's what he wanted Raph, to save us! If we all had gone back there we would've all been destroyed!
      Raph: We could've saved him!
Leo: You know we couldn't! He was gone! (Raph pushes Leo) All right Raph! I'm through talking! Let's settle this once and for all! (gets ready to slice, but he and Raph gets whacked by a staff)

    • Don: (falls into the desecrated lair) Huh? Master Splinter? Master Splinter? Leo! Raph! Mikey! (Donny pushes the door open.) The whole lair is trashed. Even the warehouse. Hmm. Looks like the Tunneler is still in one piece.

    • April: Donny, it's hard to believe that you actually traveled through time like that.
Don: I know. It's wild, isn't it? But it really was the year 1406, and we were there, all because of the time scepter.
April: Well, anything is possible. I think Uncle Augie's artifact taught me that.
Don: I know. I was going over your uncle's calculations and... (everything shakes like an earthquake) ...I think we're having an earthquake.
      April: Nothing's happening over here...
Leonardo: Master Splinter, what's going on?
Don: We've seen that kind of energy before.
      (Ultimate Drako comes out.)
      Splinter: Drako!
Leo: And the Daimyo's son. This is what we told you about Master Splinter. They merged somehow, combined together.
Raph: All into one ugly package.
Ultimate Drako: We told you we would return. We told you we would have our revenge.
      Raph: (attacks) Revenge this, whackbag!
(Raph thrown back by Ultimate Drako.)
Ultimate Drako: As if you can simply fight us. We control time and space. With Lord Simultaneous's time scepter, we are unbeatable.
Don: Someone quick! Grab the... (Everyone except for Ultimate Drako becomes frozen.)
Ultimate Drako: Now we will have our revenge.
Ultimate Ninja: Leonardo; destroy him first!
Drako: No, we agreed. The rat first. Then, the Daimyo, your father.
      Ultimate Ninja: Then Leonardo.
Drako: They will all pay. All of them.
Ultimate Drako: Yes, they will all learn the meaning of suffering. Beyond time and space.
      (Donny gets warped.)

    • Shredder: For those of you still living under the illusion that you will have freedom, know this: my armies have eliminated the last pockets of resistance, and I now control the entire planet. The treacherous Utrom scientists I have captured are completing a colossal transmit device. With it, I will send forth my armies and enslave the stars one world after another. There is no hope; there is only the Shredder.

    • Hun: Oh, crud. (He gets stomped on by the Shredder.)

  • NOTES (11)

    • Donatello's exo-suit is a reference to the non-canon Volume 3 of the Mirage comics, where Donatello was rebuilt as a cyborg after a spine-shattering accident.

    • With the 30 year timeskip, the future Turtles are at least 44 years old. Future Karai is over 50, but barely shows it (other than grayer hair).

    • Villains: Shredder, Karai, Foot Ninja army, Karai-Bots, Hun, Stockman, Drako, Ultimate Ninja (all but the last two are in the future)

    • Prologue Narrators: Karai and Shredder

    • This episode also contains a reference to the Image comic--- Michelangelo has lost his arm in this episode, an event that happened to Leonardo around #18 or so of the Image comic.

    • Deaths in this episode: Splinter (died protecting his sons years ago), Casey (died previously fighting the Foot), Hun and Stockman (executed by Shredder), Michelangelo (attacked by Karai-bots), Leonardo (slashed in the back by Karai), Raphael (attacked by Karai), Karai (blasted by April's Missile Launcher), Shredder (killed by Donatello and his Turtle Tunneler)

    • Angel is mentioned as having her own resistance faction

    • Dr. Chaplain's Karai inspired robots return in this alternate reality.

    • The intro to this episode will feature the same moment from "Reality Check," from Donatello's Point of View.

    • The Shredder's apperance in this episode (with his Utrom body attached as his head)is a reference to an ARCHIE comics universe storyline in which Krang surgically attached himself to Shredder's body. Also, the eyepatched Raphael and the blind Leonardo (substituting for Michelangelo) are references.

    • This episode first debuted on CN.

    • Evil Con Carne

Apparently, Stockman DID indeed get a similar fate to that of Hector Con Carne from the show Evil Con Carne.. His brain was still in a jar, but it was attached to Hun's body. One of the Shredder's apropos punishments, it would seem.

    • The Terminator
In the beginning, while the Shredder is addressing the public, Karai-Bots are shown blasting machine guns connected to their arms and stepping over human bones. The shots are similar to those of the grim future portrayed in the Terminator movies.
