Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2003)

Season 7 Episode 14

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles Forever (2009)

Aired Saturday 10:00 AM Nov 21, 2009 on FOX

  • Trivia

    • When 80's Leonardo is explaining how they ended up in the 2003 universe, he said "Don had this rocking idea." The turtles were never addressed by their nicknames in the 80's cartoon.

    • The 80's Shredder called his 2003 counterpart a "pink slug." While it is true that most Utroms are pink, the Utrom Shredder is red.

    • Shredder from the original cartoon planned to use the Giggle Ray, an invention featured in "Raphael Knocks 'Em Dead," but the said invention was implemented by Barney Stockman, not Shredder and Krang.

    • The exploding throwing stars were first used in the "original series" episode "Return of the Technodrome."

    • The fly that was accidentally mutated before the 2003 Turtles rescues their 1987 counterparts, might be a possible nod to the 1987 Baxter Stockman.

    • Donatello was unable to zoom in on a clear image of the 1987 Turtles but he was able to zoom in on the Purple Dragons.

    • It should be noted that Channel 6 is referenced for the second time (the first time being the second season episode Secret Origin's, Part 3) in this show. This happens when Master Splinter's soap opera is interrupted for a news bulletin.

    • When the Turtles teleport themselves into the 1980's Turtles dimension, we can see that Irma Langinstein makes a silent cameo in the movie, as one of the persons passing on the street.

    • Among the Multiverse of TMNT the 2003 Shredder revealed are the Turtles from the movie series, the Turtles of the future Donatello went to in "Same As It Never Was," and the Super Turtles Michaelangelo met in "Reality Check."

    • Karai is working for the Shredder again but in "Wedding Bells and Bytes" she was seen as a guest at Casey and April's wedding.

    • The device Bebop and Raocksteady used to find the Turtles' lair was used in the original series' episode "Beware of Lotus Blossom."

    • Shredder (1987) claims that there is no Krang in this universe when he does a dimensional scan. However, there was a short mention of a Krang in "Secret Origins, Part 3." This was probably a forgotten line of homage dialogue.

  • Quotes

    • 2003 Raphael: If you plan on doing us in, there's got to be an easier way!
Utrom Shredder: Oh, you shall perish, but not yet. You see, like you, I recently learned that ours is but a single dimension in a multi-verse of dimensions, intrigued, I used this very portal to survey them all, which is when I made a startling horrible discovery, there are not simply eight of you, but scores of you! Behold a multi-verse of accursed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
      1987 Turtles: Awesome!
Utrom Shredder: Destroying the eight of you would accomplish nothing! So long as Ninja Turtles exist somewhere in the multi-verse, they will interfere in the plans of the Shredder, our epic battle is never going to end, unless I put an end to turtles FOREVER!
Splinter: Even a creature as power mad as you cannot believe he has the ability to subvert the entire multi-verse!
Utrom Shredder: Let us put that to a test, vermin. It seems that like branches haning off a single tree, each of these dimensions sprang from a common source; destroy the source and you would set off a chain reaction that would destroy Ninja Turtles everywhere, forever more! And so, you are being scanned, broken down for the sole purpose of discovering your source DNA. Two turtles teams from two turtle worlds, different in so many ways, but deep down, there are similarities. And those similarities shall point the path to the source dimension, Turtle Prime!

    • 1987 Donatello: What about your Shredder? Think he's really gone for good this time?
Splinter: The Shredder is seldom gone for long.
      Karai: He shall return.

    • 2003 Donatello: Hun, you don't understand. The Shredder...
Hun: Forget the Shredder! You're gonna pay for what you've done to me!
1987 Raphael: (to the camera) Some people just can't handle change!
Hun: (looks straight at the camera) Why do you keep doing that? Who are you talking to? There's no one there!

    • 2003 Leonardo: (to the 1987 Turtles) You don't understand. The Utrom Shredder isn't like your Shredder. He's vicious.
      2003 Donatello: Lethal.
      2003 Michelangelo: Competent!

    • 1987 April: They're eight of you now? Holy scoop!
2003 Donatello: Wait, you're April? Um... what's with the yellow jumpsuit? Do you work at a car-wash in this dimension?
      1987 April: I'm a reporter: April O'Neil. And you're my ticket to a Peabody!
1987 Leonardo: Sorry April, no time for an exclusive. We've got to get these guys to the lair.

    • Karai: I am called Karai. I am (Ch'rell's) daughter.
1987 Shredder: Not much of a family resemblance.

    • 1987 Shredder: Eight Turtles?! I don't know how this came to be, but soon there will be none!

    • 1987 Michaelangelo: We'd like four large pizzas with sauerkraut, tuna fish, pretzels, and jelly beans.
      Pizza Chef: Aaaah! (runs off)
1987 Michaelangelo: Maybe they're outta jelly beans!

  • Notes

    • Rob Paulsen, first voice of 80s Raphael and 2012 Donatello, hated the casting direction of the film because he didn't appreciate his replacement trying to outdo his remarkable talent.

    • None of the music from the original show was used due to 4Kids not being able to afford a licensing fee to use the music from the Murakami-Wolf library.

    • Although this movie is not in continuity with the rest of the series, the first episode of Back to the Sewers did give a hint that The Utrom Shredder would return from his exile.

    • The Raphael from the original series breaks the fourth wall three separate times, with Hun on the screen during every sequence.

    • According to this film the 2007 TMNT, film is in separate universe from the Live action films.

    • Due to 4kids Entertainment being a non-union corporation, none of the Original 1987 cast were able to reprise their roles for this film.

    • When 2003 Donatello points out the Mirage Turtles when first arriving in "Turtle Prime", they are shown in a similar pose to the cover of TMNT Issue #1.

    • Despite being part of all three universes 1987 Casey and Mirage Casey do not appear.

    • Most of the the Mirages Turtles Narration was taken directly from Eastman and Laird's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1.

    • The only Turtles excluded from the multiverse are the the turtles from Ninja Turtles the Next Mutation.

    • Every one of the 2003 characters have their look from Back to the Sewers season except the Turtles.

  • Allusions

    • The newly remodeled Technodrome resembles the Death Star from the original Star Wars trilogy.

    • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 the Secret of the Ooze (1991)

Two mutant foot soliders in the army of mutants greatly ressemble Tokka and Razhar from the second live action film.

    • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3(1993) the movie

The dimensional portal stick is very simalair to the time scepter from the the third live action movie.

    • The name of the episode Turtles Forever might be an allusion to the 1995 film Batman Forever directed by Joel Schumacher, starring Val Kilmer, Tommy Lee Jones, Jim Carey, Chris O'Donnel and Nicole Kidman.

    • 2003 Shredder: Only now, in the end, do you truly understand!

This is similar to what Emperor Palpatine says to Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
