Episode Summary

The Way of Invisibility
After Casey Jones makes himself an unwanted guest in the Turtles' lair, Raphael takes him topside for a "breath of fresh air," where they encounter the Foot Tech Ninjas — enhanced with cyber armor that makes them faster, stronger and (most deadly of all) able to cloak themselves to virtual invisibility. Raph is kidnapped and interrogated, but Casey manages to slip away and warn the other Turtles. Raph escapes his captors but, unbeknownst to him, is tailed by a squad of cloaked Foot Tech Ninjas. Will Casey and the others get to Raph in time before he leads the Foot Tech Ninja directly to the Turtles' lair?moreless

  • One of the better stand-alone episodes of the first season.

Raphael and Casey Jones head out to the surface together, but they are quickly ambushed and Raph is kidanpped by the Foot Clan's newest warriors, the Foot Tech Ninjas.

'The Way of Inivsibility' is one of the best stand-alone episodes of the first season. The plot is certainly more enjoyable than 'Nano' or 'Garbageman,' and the pacing is good enough to keep you interested through the entire episode.

Even though it can be watched as a stand-alone, some of the elements of the plot do tie into the larger Foot Clan stories. The Sword of Tengu is introduced here and 'The Way of Invisibility' also marks the first time that the Turtles encounter Hun. There is also an appearance by Baxter Stockman after another of the Shredder's "punishments." All-in-all, an episode worth watching, but not a spectacular work.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (1)

  • QUOTES (16)

    • Baxter Stockman: (after Raph escapes from the boat) You fool! I was this close to obtain that DNA sample and you let him escape!
Hun: Precisely. I let him escape to lead us to the others. Even as we speak, a swarm of Foot Tech ninjas are trailing the creature. So, now it's all up to your invisible boys. Better hope they don't blow it.

    • Baxter Stockman: (to Oroku Saki) While your oversized lackey wastes time in an effort with the pointless scribblings of street thugs, I have created something useful to intercept your amphibians pest. I give you the Foot Tech ninjas.

    • Hun: (about the turtles) Maybe they're working for your old enemies.
Stockman: More likely a top secret government experiment.
Saki: (grabs Stockman) I am not interested in theories! (toss Stockman aside)

    • Stockman: Is this a field report or a fantasy novel?
(Oroku Saki slaps the pictures off Stockman)
Saki: Fool! It wasn't fantasy that destroyed your Mouser robots, Dr. Stockman! (to Hun) It wasn't fantasy that you banned the Sword of Tengu from your Foot Soldiers!

    • Casey: Graffiti! It's everywhere, All over town!
Michelangelo: I think I speak for everyone in the room when I say 'duh!'
Donatello: We're New Yorkers, Casey. We've seen graffiti before.
Casey: Not like this. (holds up a picture of a tag showing a sword impaling four turtles)

    • Don: Sensei this is Casey. The nutcas-uh...-the guy we told you about.

    • Mike: Hey! Don't I get points for creativiy?

    • Mikey: And that's how they defeated, 'The Thing That Wouldn't Leave!'

    • Casey: Don't do it guys, I'm not worth it!
Donny: You know. he's got a point.
Leo: You're starting to sound like Mikey, Don!
      Raph: Hey, where is Mikey?
(looks up and see's Mikey on pole above Foot Tach Ninja)

Mikey: The Way of Balance, and the Way of Invisibility!

    • Splinter: Please forgive my rash actions.

      (The Turtles help Casey up)

      Casey: No problemo.

Splinter: Although next time, you would be wise to heed the ancient Japanese proverb: Phone first!

    • Mikey: (to Donny) Dude, you put in the clapper?!
(Master Splinter whacks Mikey with his walking stick)
      Mikey: Ow!
Splinter: Michaelangelo, the Way of Invisibility also includes the Way of Silence!

    • Raph(at Hun's tattoo): "Nice tat! Purple dragon or just some big ugly chicken?"

    • Hun: We've been over this again and again, freak. I'm only gonna ask you this one more time; Who do you work for? How long have you been on this planet? What is the level of your technology?
Raphael: Planet? Technology? Boy, you are barking up the wrong shell.
      Hun: Answer me!
Raphael: Come to think of it, who do you work for? I mean, you look way too dumb to be in charge of all this.
Hun: (Holds buzzsaw against Raph's face) Your choice; you can talk, or you can let your DNA do the talking for you. Now is there something you want to tell me?
Raphael: Just THIS! (punches Hun in the stomach then gases him) Sweet dreams, lard butt!

    • Casey: These the only DVDs you got?
Michelangelo: Yeah, in fact, why don you borrow some and watch them at home?
Casey: (Walks over to the DVD player) That's okay, I'll watch them here. C'mon, eject, eject! You useless piece of-! (Slams his foot on the machine; it smashes)
      Michelangelo: (Screams)
Casey: Whoa, think your player's broken.
Donatello: Uh, no problem, I'll fix it... in the morning!
      Casey: Whatcha working on?
Donatello: (protects his work by sheilding it from Casey's view) Uh, boring stuff! Really really boring stuff!

    • (Casey wears the Turtle-Vision Goggles over his hockey mask.)
Michelangelo: That's a good look for you!

    • Hun: (examining Raphael's Sais) This is some nice steel! How about telling me who gave them to you?
      Raphael: Yo momma.

  • NOTES (3)

    • Code of Bushido

Leonardo mentions Bushido in one scene after Casey mispronounces the term. Technically, Bushido is the Code of Honor followed by the Samurai, not Ninja (of course, given Splinter's morals, it makes sense he might teach the Turtles something similar to Bushido).

    • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Raphael and Casey exchange insults including 'Gackface.' These are used between Casey and Donatello in the original 1990 film when using insults in alphabetical order.

    • Saturday Night Live

Michelangelo: And that's how they defeated The Thing That Wouldn't Leave!

The Thing That Wouldn't Leave is a reference to an old Saturday Night Live skit of when a house guest seriously overstays his welcome.

    • Star Trek

Casey: Cloking devices. What are they, Klingons?

The Klingons are a warrior race that has appeared in most Star Trek series and have the ability to cloak their space ships.
