  • This is why I love this show

This new version of TMNT has the wonderful habit of going back and forth between being fun and light-hearted, and being terrifying nightmare-fuel. This time it's the latter, as they perform a remake of Alien with mutant squirrels in place of a xenomorph. It was a very close copy of the original film, and featured plenty of references to the sci-fi horror franchise, including Mikey crying out "Game over man, game over!"

Sure, they made it slightly less graphic, with vomiting up the mutants instead of them bursting out of someone's chest, but all in all, I think it qualifies as terrifying nightmare-fuel all the same. There are some parts of this episode I think they did better than the original even.

I've got no idea how they manage to approve episodes like this (last season's Parasitica being another similarly terrifying one they slipped past through the approval process), but I am SO glad they do. This was an amazing episode!

EDIT: Yes, I'm aware that with no negative commentary this is a very biased review, if you can even call it that. I don't care; I'm not trying to give you consumer advice, I'm trying to win you over to my side of loving this show. And yes, I'm also aware that by admitting this review is propaganda, it may make you less likely to buy into it. Then again, maybe my honesty will win you over. Or my enthusiasm. Whatever the reason, go watch, it's awesome.moreless

    • This episode shows many references to the Alien film series. The Squirrel monsters share the design of the aliens, including their extra mouth. The way the squirrels are born, by entering a person's body and coming back out, is similar to how the aliens are born, the only difference being that the squirrels were puked out of the person while the aliens burst out of the person's chest. Also, some the lines that Michelangelo says, including "Game over, man! Game over," were said by Hudosn, a character from the second film.
