I'll level with you for a while this interpretation of Baxter was for a while not panning out for me, he was kinda coming out passable to me. But finally something great (or in Baxter's case not so great) happened we finally get to see him mutated to a fly like in the 80's cartoon. Orlando Jones voice acting I feel really gets to shine, we finally get a bit more of the Baxter from the original comic series and a bit of the 80's cartoon. In the original comics Baxter was a genius but he was also completely insane/psychopath and I love that we kinda get that vibe from this version, Baxter doesn't disappoint he is still a bit comical but he is most of the time just creepy.

The design of him is great it obviously an homage to the 50's version of "The Fly" but also probably a little inspired from the bug mutants from the underrated 80's horror film "The Nest" with certain details of his body which they did a great job, there is always something about supersizing an unplesent insect that is creepy; I'll admit one look at him almost makes you want to get a big can of Raid. There are even two moments that stand out for me about him, we see how he eats candy bars and if you know your science about the fly it was disgusting but also shows his other ability which is to spit out enzyme which gives him a bit of an edge, so he's no pushover.

But also like this little homage to the 80's version of "The Fly" (personaly my favorate version) as Baxter comes to a conclusion of combining a human with himself in the ozze to not just become human again but stronger, I feel this just shows how crazy he's became when we see the conclusion he's drawn on the blackboard is really just pictures and not a complex equasion.

The action is very good as usual liked seeing Baxter fight and use his abilities giving the Turtles, Casey and April a bit of a run for their money. My favorate battle sequence is the arrial dog fight which was just terrific as we see foot ninjas, Baxter, the Turtles, even Kirby whom for once becomes useful let alone it was cool seeing April and Casey fly him almost a touching family dynamic in a weard way. All flying around trying to get the cure which is unfortunately the only copy. In a way you could say it was like Football but in the air as each of them are trying to intersept the canaster and keep it away from the other team.

The last canster then breaks but April and Casey make Kirby go at top speed and get down to the last drop. And we see Kirby is finally back in human form, so April finally got her dad back and even pecked Don on the cheek twice and it was funny when he bragged to Casey about it, only to get tripped by Casey with his hockey stick, serves Donny right never brag.

I even like that little moment which was touching when we see Donny promise to make a cure for Splinter but Splinter declines because he accepts what he's became and wants to remain that way because his place is with his sons. Which makes sense because when you think about it there really isn't anything back there in the human realm for him, everything that matter to him back then is gone, so he has no reason to go back.

But we then see a little tidbit in the end as Baxter is being escorted to Shreader for a job to make one more mutant for his army. I have a very bad feeling whom that next mutant is going to be, Karie. Which is all the more reason why Karie needs to find the truth and escape because time for her is running out.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • When Baxter interrupts the Turtles from curing April's dad, he demands they give him the retromutagen. This is a goof because Baxter shouldn't know what the Turtles were doing, and was only interested in revenge at the start of his attack.

  • QUOTES (1)

    • Michelangelo: Raph! Kirby Bat wants to suck my turtle blood!
Raph: Maybe I'll give him just a little taste...
      Michelangelo: Raph!
      Raphael: I'm kidding, I'm kidding!

  • NOTES (1)

    • Baxter becomes his mutant fly form just like his first incarnation from G1.

    • Baxter's mutant fly form and ability to spit bile on food and foe alike is very similar to Jeff Goldblum's character, Seth Brundle, in the 1986 movie The Fly.

    • When Mikey grabs the retro mutagen and comments about being human, he is making reference to the G1 TMNT episode The Gang's All Here S03E41. In the episode, Mikey ate cookies made by Shredder to turn the Turtles into humans.

    • In the beginning of the episode, Baxter is begging for his life, and says how he has plans for mutant pigs and rhinos. This is a reference to Shredder's henchmen Rocksteady and Bebop of the G1 TMNT.
