First off I really enjoy watching Summer Glau on TV. She's a gorgeous and talented actress and I've been a fan since her role as River in Firefly.

Anyways I decided to draw her using a couple promo pics of the show. The drawing is on an 11x14 (but I cropped out the 3/4" borders) so I really couldn't scan it with a standard scanner, and taking a picture with a digital camera was my best option. Let me know what you think!

Really? I'm currently a student in college and I used to be a Graphic Design major (now Marketing). My professors kept my artwork (2d and 3d) and used them as samples for other classes and showcased them in art galleries. And yes it's an amazing feeling to know other people appreciate your skill and work.

People often argue that there is no point in drawing a replication of an existing photograph, let alone make it look real and life-like. My argument is that the fact that it's a drawing makes it so unique, and for the artist themselves, there's a great sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. Sure there's photoshop and my drawing can easily be replicated in less than 5 mins, but there's something about using just pencil and paper to create an image that makes it stand out. So it's far from pointless.

Ah, thanks...Well I have a couple other portraits in my deviantart profile which I just opened up today, but they're not like the Summer Glau. Also the Summer Glau pic in my profile is even larger than the link I posted here, so it would be better for your wallpaper.

    Great drawing!

I suggest you create your version of a metal endoskeleton beneath Cameron's skin.. like if a portion of her face got blown off and the metal parts beneath it are showing... That would be very cool

Thanks! I do admit I'm not very good at improvising and making stuff up as I draw, let alone make it look realistic. But I'll consider the idea. I'm not sure I'll use her face though, maybe I'll go with the lower body like how she's marketed in the fox website.
