Sad but I think you are right. Sci-Fi shows should stay as far away from FOX as possible...

Too bad, as the premise sounds interesting.

Fringe is an awesome show and it's back for season 3! Very sci-fi if you ask me. I bet this can do well if it's placed on a good night.

hate to say it but fox has horrible track record when it comes to Sci-fi shows they make lasting more than one season
Rember they are the ones that gave us one season of firefly and Space above and Beyound, neither of which really had any closure when fox ended them.

Fringe is an amazing show, especially the more recent episodes, and it still barely managed to hang on. With Lost over and heroes done (and dead to me for awhile now), there aren't many sci-fi shows left on prime-time networks. It's a bad sign Fox is our best hope...

I think the fact Lost and Heroes has ended will help Terra Nova. There's a great deal of sci-fi fans looking for a new show and they'll give this a chance. They just have to make sure the show starts out of the gates fast and doesn't slow to a crawl. Sci-fi fans are as fickle as it gets. Plus Fox has supported Fringe rather well, even if it's because of JJ Abrams name. Stephen Spielberg has an even bigger name so they'll give him the benefit of the doubt at first. Terra Nova has a better chance than most new shows probably do despite it being sci-fi. It's also at least original which is a plus.

Yeah, Fox is horrible with Sci-fi. Like that one that didn't last long at all. X-files or something like that.

Fringe is in trouble being moved to Fridays...but Terra Nova could gain a following w/ American idol off in the fall. I believe they're doing a "Glee" type deal where they air the pilot in the late spring and rope in the viewers for the fall.

I hate Fox in general... they cancel a lot of decent shows. Personally, I think of all of the US networks Fox is probably the worst for that.

But they've managed to keep Fringe going for a bunch of seasons now so that's at least something. And I'm sure part of the lure for Fringe was that Abrams was behind it.

So now we have another show, this time with Spielberg behind it. So there's a chance Fox might keep it around... not a great chance but a chance.

After having watched the putrid first 3 episodes, if it lasts 1 season I'll be surprised.

I see 3 possible answers, though they're just made-up in my head.

    1) My guess is they can only send "so much" through a portal at once, and stuff that's only "so big."

    2) Low impact - they want to start over, from scratch, and make better decisions. They're probably trying for the most environmentally-friendly construction of stuff that they can use.

    3) Upkeep. If something happens to the building, they can use the nearby trees for timber and stuff to fix it. Otherwise, if something happened to a steel / concrete / etc building they would have to wait for supplies or just demolish it.

Its not just FOX, sci-fi shows in general struggle under the weight of the endlessly increasing terrible reality TV shows the networks love to force.

Lost was a Sci-fi that worked, was hoping the same for TN - to give the genre a bit of a boost.. sadly this is not it.
