In the opening, the "men of Texaco" introduce Berle as a man who's jokes are prehistoric. Berle bursts onstage in a caveman costume with a female dummy thrown over his shoulder. He attacks the orchestra, then rushes into the audience and steals a woman's fur coat. Naturally, he models it onstage.
Ethel Waters, from the hit Broadway show Member of the Wedding performs "Memories of You" and "Heatwave".
Berle introduces celebrities in the audience, including new heavyweight boxing champ Ezzard Charles.
Members of the New York Yankees join Berle in a sketch where he plays their coach, Casey Sagebrush. Rose Marie does an impression of Jimmy Durante before being swarmed by a stage-full of Durante impressionists.
Tony Martin performs "Begin the Beguine". He also sings "Tentement Symphony" which leads into the big musical finale. Joe E. Brown plays a character who introduces, through music, the various residents of the tenement. In the street scene, a young man steps forward and sings "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" to the applause of his neighbors.
Uncle Miltie wraps up the show with good night wishes to all his nieces and nephews.
