      • Some viewers raised a ruckus over a sketch in this episode. In it, a general orders theater ushers to recite a pledge based on the Pledge of Alliegence. Some veterans groups were horrified by what they considered ridicule of the Pledge and the flag, condemning Berle, NBC, and Texaco as being unpatriotic. A U. S. Representative from Pennsylvania even promised to bring the issue up before a Senate comittee that investigates television because it was in "monumental bad taste". Texaco eventually sent out letters saying no offense was meant but, in defense of Berle, "This type of parody has come to be an accepted form of entertainment."
