      • Editor's Note: The TV listings in the New York Times show Martha Raye as a guest on this week's show, as well as the following two weeks. Though she was a close buddy of Berle's, three consecutive weeks seems unlikely. Since we have no information to indicate otherwise, Raye has been included as a guest on all three shows in this guide.

      • Concerned about his TV work being perserved only on less than ideal kinescopes, Berle spent the summer pitching Hollywood studios on shooting Texaco on film. According to Milton Berle: An Autobiography, the studios didn't yet understand television; he was turned down by 20th Century-Fox, Columbia and MGM. Louis B. Mayer showed him out of his office saying, "Mr. Berle, MGM is in the motion-pkcture business, not the television business."
