That '70s Show

Season 2 Episode 5

Aired Sunday 8:00 PM Oct 26, 1999 on FOX

  • Trivia

    • The music used in this episode was:
(Don't Fear) The Reaper (1976) by Blue Oyster Cult.

    • In this episode, we find out that Jackie's middle name is Beulah. However, in Eric's Burger Job (Season 1, episode 5), she was wearing a t-shirt with "JSB" on it, which would presumably be her initials.

    • In the 70's, the drinking age was still only 18 in Wisconsin; it wasn't raised to 21 until 1986. This is why Kelso, at age 18, would have been able to buy everyone beer.

  • Quotes

    • (While burying their permanent records)
Jackie: This is so stupid. Why don't we just burn them?
Kelso: Jackie, they've already been in a fire. They can't be destroyed that way.

    • Eric: Man, you had to repeat first grade?
Jackie: Oh my god! Michael, say it's not true!
Kelso: It was, it was cursive writing, all right? All those... stupid squiggles and bumps! I wouldn't do it!
Hyde: You mean you couldn't do it!
Kelso: No, I wouldn't do it, and that's why they held me back! Plus, I might've killed the class bunny.

    • (Eric is telling a scary story)
Eric: ...And the man said, "Here's your daughter's sweater. She left it in my car, last night." And the woman said, "Why, that's impossible. My daughter died ten
years ago. Wearing that... very... sweater."
      Hyde: So?
Eric: So, she was dead. And…he gave her a ride. And she was dead!
Fez: When I was six, the mayor of our town was hung from a tree. Your story was not scary.

    • Jackie: Donna, you know who protected me back there? Fez.
Donna: He had to, he's Batman.

    • Fez: Trick or treat! An apple? Where's my candy, you son of a bitch?!

    • Red: He's an ass and he's dumb so that makes him a...
(an angelic light falls on him)
      Red: A dumb ass!

    • Hyde (to Kelso): You're 18? You mean to tell me that you could have been out buying us beer this whole time?

    • (Fez is dressed up in a skin-tight Batman suit for Halloween)
Fez: Boy, you must have looked so stupid!

  • Allusions

    • In the final credits sequence, Hyde's dream about a hand coming out of the grave is a direct reference to the final scene of the movie Carrie (1976), and even uses the same music.
