A The 100 Community
Wednesday 9:00 PM on The CW
Guys, remember last week when I was all, “but the rocket!” and this week The 100 was like, “relax Toni, we’re using the rocket”. And remember two weeks ago when I was all, “aw man, I hope we see Echo again!” and this week The 100 was like, “Fine, Toni, you can see Echo again.” And when when I was all, "I want to see Clarke be a hero!", or when I was like, “I want Jaha to be a straight-up villain!” and both times The 100 sighed and was like, "fiiiiiiiine."

What I’m saying is that my relationship with The 100 has become that of toddler / annoyed babysitter, where I whine about something and then the show gives it to me immediately to shut me up so it can talk on the phone with its friends and maybe do some homework.

The Adventure Squad is going to space!!! This is very exciting. We’ve never seen our Squad in space. Sure, we’ve had lens-flare flashback episodes, but they weren’t the Squad then. Plus, they were all clean or in space-jail. So now we get to see them dealing with all the shit they’ve done while surviving together in a confined area, battling space-dangers, and with no stupid adults? HELL YES. YOU GUYS - this will be a mirror of season 1, where the adults were in space, and the kids were on the ground, and I get to use my “meanwhile in space” segway again and I’m just so exci- I’m getting ahead of myself. They have to survive first.

Let’s go ahead and rocket right into this photo recap (I’m so sorry, I’ll do better).

The Chosen began through the eyes of a child (how dare you), during the chaos of Skaikru being violently herded into the biggest underground set they could find. As we learned in season one with an adorable freckled father and his sassy pre-teen, the most effective way to create a fast emotional connection with a one-off character is to give them a loving relationship to a child.

Whelp! We already care about these two, so that’s a death sentence.

All of Skaikru were sealed in and our main heroes stood there awkwardly giving them the kind of look you see on every HR person in the universe.

I know, I know, this show loves the colour grey even more than the Counting Crows, so it needs someone like Jaha to stir the pot and show the other side of this argument, and the show needs conflict, yeah, yeah, yeah, but… uuuggghhhh. Look, don’t call a doctor, but I’m going to be real for a sec.

Reasons it was absolutely 100% the correct thing to do to open the door:

  • -You get 1200 survivors versus only 460 (you are saving humanity, correct?)
  • -You aren’t limiting your gene pool to the same people you’ve been procreating with for the last hundred years.
  • -You aren’t losing generations worth of cultural identity, and are in fact gaining the knowledge and wisdom of other cultures.
  • -Sure, Skaikru knows how to run the bunker, so they’re needed. The Grounders know about the GROUND. They are eventually getting out of that thing, and what then? Does Skaikru think they can navigate a radiated, post-apocalyptic Earth because of some bullshit “Earth Skills” class that Pike’s Stupid Face taught?
  • -Speaking of five years from now… do they really think everyone outside the bunker is going to die? They will still have enemies on the outside, and 1200 to defend “one kru” sounds better than 460.

I know it’s hard to watch the people you know die, and maybe I’m only annoyed because it’s Jaha, or because my heart has been replaced by a can of cashews, but I just don’t see how anyone could throw blame and guilt onto Bellamy and Abby for making this choice, which is also why I had zero patience for Abby's choice this episode.

MOVING ON.

Abby feels bad about evvvvvvverything! I bet she’s never given a bad uber review in her life. Anyway, her and Raven devised a plan to get her to the bunker (because Raven is awesome).

After Jaha threw another hissy, Bellamy and Clarke were like, “can we please focus this conversation back to Raven? Raven is the coolest, and we need to be in close proximity with her, pronto.” So Clarke and Bellamy are going on a road trip! Somebody better pack some snacks! Don’t want to get hangry before seeing Raven!

Abby gave Clarke a pep talk about what a good person she is, and Clarke was like, “why are you being weird?” and Abby was all, “no reason.” And the audience was like, “you’re totally planning on giving up your spot aren’t you?” And Abby all, “whaaaaaaaa?? Me? Nuhhhhhhhh uhhhhhhhhhhhhh!”

Anyway, then our hearts lit up because look who was going on the road trip!

Thank you, The 100, for what you have done for us this day. Imagine if the Adventure Squad went into space WITHOUT the Beautiful Creepster? RIOTS IN THE STREETS! Anyway, Bellamy didn’t believe Murphy would volunteer to get Raven out of the goodness of his heart, and Murphy was mad Bellamy opened the door, so they growled at each other for a sexy minute.

KISS! KISS! KISS!

Meanwhile, Kane was trying his best at public speaking, and it was not going well.

They didn’t take it well, but forget that - let’s talk about the true shock of this entire episode:

WHAT??? How in the sweet hell did this man make it to such a ripe old age?? This is the world of The 100! NO ONE makes it to old age. Who is this mystery man, and what are all of his secrets? I must know immediately, and considering The 100 is currently acting like my annoyed babysitter, I expect to find out next week, or at least in some sort of blog post or tweet.

Anyway, because all the extras in this universe are total jerks, they started to attack Niylah because she’s not “one of them” (ugh, humans are terrible).

Awwwww damn. Octavia stated in no uncertain terms that if they didn’t comply with the rules, she was going to go Octavia on their asses. Then she walked away and got sad about it. It was so cuuuuute (don’t tell her I said that, she’s very scary).

Indra is so damn cool. I gush, I know, but the relationship between Octavia and Indra is MY FAVOURITE. These are two fierce, amazing women, both relying on the other for strength and support. The way their mentorship / friendship / comrade dynamic has shifted into family over these past seasons is truly beautiful. Plus, you know, they’re both so damn kick-ass, and both Marie Avgeropoulos and Adina Porter are killing it. So… not sure where I was going with this. I JUST LIKE IT, OKAY?

Indra told Octavia that if Skaikru doesn’t get it together, they have to kill them. AND SHE’S RIGHT! (Talk about grey) The Grounders need a leader - it’s their way - and if Octavia goes back on her word, she would lose their loyalty and the bunker would fall into chaos. MAN OH MAN THIS SHOW!

The Adventure Squad Road Trip was underway, with Emori and Murphy being cute in the backseat…

(feel free to hang that over your fireplace)

… and Clarke and Bellamy were talking morality (their favourite!) in the front seat.

But then they hit someone and a bunch of Grounders approached the rover and politely asked to borrow their suits by pulling them all out of the vehicle and trying to kill them.

BUT THEN

Echo!! She’d been following them since the bunker, innocently hoping for an opportunity to save them and redeem herself, and no one can convince me otherwise! She then politely asked to be taken to the mini-bunker to I guess live out the rest of her days as a third wheel with Murphy and Emori. I can honestly think of worse fates.

Back at Bunker Prime, Miller’s Cool Dad put in Nate’s name instead of his own (my heart), and Abby admitted that she didn't want to stick around for season 5.

She is one of the only doctors! That makes her the most essential of essential personnel!

Meanwhile, that one guy, you know what guy, asked Jaha to take care of his son when he’s gone.

So Jaha said the lottery could never work because the people are too riled up, then when the lottery was totally working, Jaha decided to rile the people up, knowing full well that a fight with the Grounders could end with EVERYONE dead. #Villain

The Adventure Squad needed a ride, so naturally Bellamy called the most reliable, heroic and pure-hearted person he knew.

Then our beloved Emori started spitting up blood, which was VERY UPSETTING - I AM UPSET WITH YOU, SHOW - and they discovered her suit was ripped.

Clarke gave Emori her helmet! Sure, Clarke has nightblood, but like Bellamy pointed out, it was untested. This was a nice moment. Clarke was the only one willing to risk her own life to save another. It was comforting to see Clarke be a no-question-about-it hero again, especially after the whole Door Debacle of ‘49.

Monty and Harper showed up and everyone was like, “we could go back, but then we’d have to live in a world without Raven,” and no one wanted that, because WHO WOULD WANT THAT? Then Clarke was like, “I have an idea that could save us!” And Bellamy was like, “I’m all ears”, and Clarke just shook her head all, “it’s not the end of the episode yet, you have to wait to hear it like everyone else.”

Back in Stupid Town with all the stupid Stupids, the lottery was going PERFECTLY FINE (meaning Miller got a spot and shared an adorable moment with Jackson *swoon*), but then Kane noticed a very obviously nefarious nod between that one guy and Jaha.

I tip my hat to the writers for making the only way Kane could get through to Jaha in this moment was through his ego. Jaha didn’t back down until Kane was all, “no one will like you anymore, but if you don’t do this, everyone will.” Jaha backed down because of his own vanity. #TotalVillain

Skaikru were all chanting “fight”, which is probably the closest most of them have ever come to an actual fight, and Octavia and Indra were getting ready to bust some heads. Then they opened the door to find…

They gassed them all! And then they had to pick their limp bodies from the ground, sorting them into yes and no piles like they were laundry. Outstanding.

How dare you.

Oh, and Jaha didn't continue to incite a riot that would kill countless people, so I guess throw him a parade or something.

Back at ALIE Island, Raven was losing hope that her uber would ever show up, when IT DID!

They all took off their helmet’s all at once, and I didn’t even care that it was obviously choreographed, it was SO DAMN COOL. Then Clarke ignited her plan (dear God, I’m so sorry), to take the rocket into space and become an Adventure Squad sitcom!!!

Huzzahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! What an amazingly creative development. You guys, I had no idea how much I wanted our Adventure Squad in space until the possibility was dangled in front of me. Obviously I hope they come back DOWN again soon, because as we learned in season 1, there’s only so much to explore up there. BUT STILL.

I am so pumped for the season finale. This episode was so tense! Okay, sure, they’re all tense in an “any of your favourites could die at any given time” kind of way. But this episode was tense in a “mob mentality, shit could get so messy so fast” kind of way. It was disturbing because, well, look around. The entire world as we know it is basically one giant mob right now.

On that delightful note… bye!

SOME STUFF:

-- CLARKE PUT HER HAIR BACK IN A BRAID!!! This is momentous.

-- Once again the show presented us with a father / child duo that were ultimately separated. Speaking of adorable father/kid duos who were separated by horrific death… what are the odds that cute snarky half-blind girl is still alive? I like to think she is. That adorable freckled father did NOT die for nothing! #NeverForget

-- Kane saved Abby, because of course he did. Even if she wasn’t his one true love, she’s THE DOCTOR. Also, Abby was very shady about her illness to Kane. Is she just going to let the seizures kill her?

-- Octavia is Queen of the Grounders! Also, Indra referring to all the Grounders as “Onekru”… *slow clap*

-- On a scale of 1 to “It’s Everything I Never Knew I Always Wanted”, how hard are you shipping Octavia and Niylah right now?

-- RIP Miller’s Cool Dad. You were a gentleman and a Scholar, and a really, really, cool dad.

-- This episode’s acting MVP was (all of them, obviously), but especially Henry Ian Cusick. Kane was dealing with A LOT!

-- Is Jaha a total villain? Is he going to die next week? Do you want him to? HOW do you want him to? Do you fantasize about it? Do you draw pictures of it, or write fanfiction about it?

-- Clarke’s list made a comeback! I wonder if it still has her fanfiction scribbled in the margins. #MonkeyinAround

-- Who would YOU want to live in space with? My answer is Kurt Browning, Amy Poehler, Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid, and Gary Busey to keep things interesting.

[EDIT - It was pointed out to me on twitter that I was being insensitive about Abby's situation, and they were right. Just because Abby is "essential personnel" doesn't mean she's not entitled to her own struggle. I was thinking pragmatically and overlooked the possibility that perhaps Abby was experiencing legitimate suicidal thoughts (as opposed to the dramatic grand gesture I assumed she was making). So, I apologize.]

Okay this is a bit random but how do you get the pictures of the show for your recaps? I'm thinking of doing my own recaps thanks to you having inspired me and because my own snarky inner-dialogue when I watch this show needs to me released to the public because honestly sometimes I crack myself up. Also you will be please to know that I was literally cheering for Kane to strangle Jaha this episode. He is getting on my last nerve, ugh. Although I will say I am grateful to him for finding the bunker and saving almost everyone he just needs to be dead now lol.

OMG! I finally watched this ep (had to read the recap before I dive into the finally :O)

Echo's entrance song was hilarious, I was singing along to it merrily :)

I'm confused about the rocket, aren't there only 2 seats in it.....

Also the old dude u were asking about, didn't really old people get floated? or is that just something I would do if I was Chancellor :P

I'm so happy that Clarke has finally put her hair up, like why does she not always have cool braids like most grounder gals.

TIME TO WATCH THE FINAL :o :o :o

Today we all still fondly remember freckled father and his plucky blind oxygen deprived daughter and perhaps some nights we even recite the "Traveller's blessing" for them as taught to us by Kane - but this guy? Ugh! [emotional.. connection.. disengaged] Could not throw him and Jaha into the primfaya fast enough.

All I'm saying is, if Bellamy crashing and the whole Echo/Grounder debacle hadn't happened - Monty would have had a long drive just to find out Clarke's list had come back to jinx him. #Darcylivesforever

So do you think those left outside the bunker wake up, then burn and die or would Wonkru give them a mercy stabbing before tossing them out of the bunker?

When primfaya rages, amongst the chaos who will rise? A carnivorous sea monster or a mutated gorilla?

I think I'd be taking extra soy milk and tofu cake off of Nylah's cafeteria tray as long as Octavia or Indra wasn't around.

Toni! You forgot how exciting it is that they used Clark's list! This means a certain very special (and attractive) member of the original 100 will survive!

Here is my fantasy cliffhanger for next weeks finale : Nobody notices, but before the cargo bay door closes, an extra passenger slipped on board. That's right , you guessed it! It's none other than MISS MAGILLA THE MUTATED GORILLA!! Of all the sci-fi genres that the 100 has paid tribute to over the seasons, I don't think they've ever done the "low budget Alien rip-off" genre! And what better way to do so than by having the gang trapped on a spaceship with a mutated gorilla! Congo meets Alien! But they won't shoot her out the airlock of course, they will find a way to sedate her, so she can come back to earth with them eventually. ( It will also be discovered that she is pregnant.)

''Check'' ''Mate'' LOOOOL...The father and his daughter from season 1win though..This guy was a bellend and i had no sympathy for him until he got dragged out and Jaha picked up his kid, I also realized in this episode that i actually hate Skaicru more than Jaha..The way they flip flop between leaders since season 2 is worse than sheep.
Echo in space..
Raven is the only one who deserves to be saved with 7 dramatically choreographed helmet lifts.

Jaha is not to be trusted with kids! Not only did he send his own son down to Earth to possibly die, but he fed a teen to a ravenous sea creature. What was that one guy thinking entrusting his cute, innocent little boy to Jaha?!

And yeah, 1200 people living in a bunker for 5 years will at no point during that time need medical attention. Stop being dense, Abby.

Loved that one still frame of Bellamy giving the side-eye to Jaha. "He's a villain now" GENIUS!

Awesome recap as always!

If the Adventure Squad actually gets the rocket off the ground, I imagine it will be a long ride before their destination. So I have come up with a Playlist for the ride. Sorry Bellamy no Jackson Five ;-)

- The Final Countdown (obviously)

- Hells Bells

- Lovin' Every Minute Of It (only because it mentions a rocket)

- It's The End of The World As We Know It

- Bad Moon Rising

- Don't Fear The Reaper

- Black Hole Sun (RIP Chris)

- We Didn't Start The Fire

- Ghost Riders in The Sky

- Wheel in the Sky

- Spirit In The Sky

- Man On The Moon

- Rocket Man

- Space Cowboy

- Dark Side of the Moon

- Walking On The Moon

- Space Oddity

Please feel free to add songs to the list. It's a long ride!

This episode was well and truly spoiled for me by the fact that Octavia (or anyone!!!) didn't kill Jaha within the first ten minutes. And to me the situation wasn't grey at all. Worst this show has ever done at that, actually. I understand Finn massacring those people more than Jaha trying to save his four hundred people over 1200. Maybe I would've had more respect for him if he'd offered up his own spot too but... nah. #TotalVillain

Almost forgot, I too am shipping Octavia and Niylah right now. Her saving Niylah - who has done nothing but help these idiots sense they arrived and they thank her by the mob throwing her out - was epic. Man screw these people.

Another great recap of another tension filled hour leading into the finale. I'm with you toni. Marie Avgeropoulos and Adina Porter together on screen has just become go to for this show. Those two bring out so much in one another. Don't these morons realize that these two badass women should be in charge? Jaha and Kane were responsible for your mother being shot out of an airlock Octavia. Maybe you should lock them both under the floor of the bunker for five years.

Clake the heroine once again. Thank you show. Even she loves Emori and Murphy. Which, OK now I'm getting really worried those two have been through so much in their small time together and caused or gotten into so much trouble. Yet this season is so focused on their love of one another. They can't be safe, can they?
I think these folks are going to be in a hell of a lot of trouble without Raven and Monty. Why didn't they have an entire army out retrieving her, Sending one rover with a crew of four people was pretty weak. (Ok so that is what the plot called for because the rocket only has room for eight?) Them being without Raven Reyes is going to end them all.
Loved the scene where Kane makes sure Abby is one of the saved. She was such a pain in the butt this episode and the way he overrode her decision to die was one of the sweetest parts of the episode. OK so are her and Jackson the only doctors left? If so her decision to die was pretty damn selfish.
So only one episode left of our favorite show. Your wit and love of this, the best damn show on The CW is admirable. You are better than any of the hacks at TV Guide.com. They love you too, did they make you an offer yet? Don't leave the mothership toni we need you here!

- I know it was meant to be a tender moment, but when Abby told Clarke she was 'one of the good guys' I laughed out loud.
This show has set the bar pretty low for being a 'good guy' and Clarke rarely, if ever meets that criteria.

- It's kind of hard to feel bad for Abby and her guilt considering that Clarke's biggest kills have come from lack of options and she typically just bares the guilt and keeps going forward.

- Has anyone noticed that Indra as Trikru leader is a wealth of advice and teachings, whereas Indra as second to the Commander offers only one solution which is murder?

- At this point, I truly believe that Jaha doesn't care about humanity, or saving his people he wants to maintain control and be seen as a leader, a position which he would never have in Octavia's Onekru. Which is why he'd rather risk burning it all down.
Also, how is Jaha essential personnel? He was trained as an engineer but considering how he spent the last three seasons, I'm guessing they don't desperately need him on the team.
Clarke with her medical training and the title Wanheda, on the off chance she can scare some Grounders, plus her previous working relationship with the last two Commanders is more essential, even if she wasn't Abby's daughter.

- Even though he was credited as a guest star, Roan failed to appear which either means he's hiding in Octavia's bunker or somehow became a nightblood because there is no other alternative for me.

I noticed that too..This is the closest to murder murder kill kill Indra we first saw as one of Lexa's right hands..Not that she was completely wrong.
So were saying Jaha will prefer to be King of Hell rather than serve in Heaven..

And Indra isn't completely wrong, but if Octavia is going to avoid turning into the same type of leader Clarke was, the type of leader that Octavia despised and swore she would never understand, she's going to need someone like Niylah offering less stabby solutions

I think there's a slight disconnect between how he perceives himself and how his people perceive him. He thinks he's essential personnel and the best choice for leader even though we've seen no evidence that he's anything more than a good orator and we don't even know if he was even a good leader on the Ark because we have no other comparisons, except crazy blonde lady who led a bunch of people to their deaths.

That's what you think/want, but what if Echo immediately guns for Bellamy (he did save her life way back in mount weather) and Clarke started getting cozy with Raven - who rebooted herself, and therefore may be open to new stuff (just think about it. there's a spiritual threesome with Finn there, somewhere).

LOL, Well I don't at all see any Ravn and Clarke chemistry. Plus, Raven's straight. And Echo DID try and murder Octavia, so IDK if Bell feels the same way. Plus Bellare is in the books. Like they started hooking up a month in.

Prediction: Season 5 will do a 5 year time jump.

This makes a lot of sense to be because in show-time we are at something like 9 months, but in real actor time we're at 5 years. It'd be an interesting way to both shake things up and even things out.

(also, insignificant note, but called it "wonkru" Indra: Wonkru looks to you now.")

Do you think they'd kill Clarke off? I haven't been able to shake the feeling she's done for for a few weeks now but would they, WOULD THEY?
Alternatively, given how many earlier plot points came back in the end, the list, Jaha's bunker, the rocket etc. I'd say her Nightblood resistance will kick in and she'll get left behind for some reason. A fate ever so slightly better than death, maybe, but yeah, one way or another, I don't think she's going into space.
I'm guessing next season will be structured like S1 was. There's a 5 year time jump and what happened in the bunker and in space plays out in flash backs like how S1 showed events on the Ark in flashback.

I legit do *not* think they'd kill off Clarke.

I also did not buy the Octavia-is-dead fakeout from earlier in the season.

To me, Clarke, Bell, and O have always been the heart of the show. There are other important characters I would yell and throw things if they killed off (Monty, Raven, Kane, Murphy, Emori), and some who I have already thrown things for (Lexa, Roan, LINCOLN) but if they lost Bell/Clarke/O, I think I would lose some interest in my beloved show.

Okay, so who of the adventure squad is on the list? Clarke and Bellamy are, Raven is, but the rest of them aren't, right? Or was Monty? Also, why are we saving Jaha again? That's a name you can cross off the list right away.
Hopefully they're going to do a head count when they're done moving bodies, because those numbers keep fluctuating, and it would be dumb to waste a spot because someone can't do math.
And yes, SAVE THE DOCTOR. Seriously. Don't be stupid. Whoever's staying in the bunker better have some skills to offer.
Also, I wonder at what point in the timeline the next season is going to start. Will it be immediately afterwards, or are we going to do a time jump again? Not that five years of separate groups wouldn't have some stories to explore, but still.
