  • A derivative Teen SciFi Series begins!

    6.5
Watched the first episode today, and thought it was OK. There is nothing ground breaking about how the story is being handled but the basic idea I found interesting. The space station and the special effects were OK - the exception was the deer, which was not good. Surprise ending to the first episode was good I was expecting it to be more feel good - the ending that is - will watch and see how this all turns out.moreless

    8.5
I thought this was a pretty exciting start to the series. It introduced the lead characters well and gave enough background information without using an info dump. It feels like there is a lot of potential in the concept and it is only the first episode, we don't really know if the writers will deliver on the potential or if it will go downhill.

Of course the first episode can't go too deep into the characters in the 40 minutes of the episode, but I think that I already have a nice impression of some of the leads. We can only hope that these characters will get fleshed out in the following episodes.

And what do you think would happen if 100 teenagers from a restrictive environment, without any practical skills in survival would do once there are free? That only seems realistic to me. It would have been unrealistic to have them all be responsible, organised and gathering food and building shelter as soon as they landed. These are teenagers after all, who don't have any survival training for this environment and who always had someone who told them what to do and cared for their needs.

There are a few nitpicks, but I always like to look for theses.

How could someone hide a child for as long as they hid Octavia? The food on the station was certainly rationed, so how did they feed her? And nobody realized her mother was pregnant in the cramped confines of a space station?

Also why did her brother not get arrested and spaced, as he definitely helped to cover up his sister's existence? He seemed to have been not punished at all.

How come they all look like models? There must be some normal looking teens on the station. Or do they just kill the ugly ones?

Why do they all seem to be English speaking Americans? It was said that they combined the 12 space stations of all the nations, so they should have some people who come from other nations and still speak their language with each other.

And why does Earth look so idyllic? Wasn't there supposed to have been a nuclear annihilation? Except from some mutations, which are probably quite dangerous, it all looks really pretty. Perhaps it is because they dumped them on a mountain, and the situation in the cities would be quite different.

Why did nobody get the idea that some people could have survived on Earth?

And is it really safe after a 100 years to drink the water and eat the food? I know that the 100 have no choice, but it seems a bit unrealistic that there wouldn't be at least some streams which have poisonous water.

And who didn't see it coming that the doctor would be saved at the last minute? She is in the main cast after all.

I don't quite like that they put a time limit on life on the station. This means that in a few months they will have no choice but to send more people down. This would conflict with the concept of these teenagers having to survive on their own. I would have made it a few years, so we could have a longer time for the development on the ground. I would have liked it more if they would have concentrated on the young people on Earth and only showed life on the space station in flashbacks.moreless
  • Bad!!!!

    3.0
I'm in the UK and just watched this.

I have no idea why people are giving this high reviews.

It was really bad. I could go in to details but the people who have scored it low have hit the mark. I will give it my usual 3 episodes to decide if I watch it but If they are as bad as the pilot then I will be glad never to watch it again.moreless
  • Nice space ships but down on Earth its pants!

    2.5
So a load of vacuous pretty boys and girls are left to 'survive' with only their designer clothes, perfect hair and make-up. Not a boy scout amongst them. And of course there are at least two gangs of 'others' intent on killing the pretty boys and girls. Then the parents or at least some of them land on Earth. Surely this nonsense wont be renewed?
  • DVR catchup of The 100

    3.0
Glad to see the Pilot had a lower review rating than subsequent episodes because if this was the best they can do then I would not watch anymore.

The space station scenes appeared dreary and the acting was equally so. The earth storyline seemed like a poor version of Lord of the Flies. Liked a couple of the characters and really disliked others (most of the antagonists). The writing seemed shallow and derivative.

Will watch a few more on the DVR with the hope that it does improve.

A huge disappointment if this is just another poorly executed Sci-Fi show.moreless
