(Sam Howell (the Banker) to Emily)
Sam Howell: We all got together this morning and had a meeting with the Mayor. We thought you might like to know that next Saturday has been declared 'Jim Hefferan Day'.
Mr. Sawyer: You see Mrs. Hefferan, we've all been thinking that a man who has done so much for a town deserves recognition.
Sam Howell: Maybe you don't realize it Emily, but if it hadn't been for Jim, this town wouldn't be half of what it is today. We wouldn't have a hospital, or the Creamery, or a Laundry.
George Kirby: They are right Mrs. Hefferan, from what I hear Jim didn't make any money out of any of those things but he started them. I could use a man like Jimmy, he's got ideas.
Sam Howell: Maybe Jim hasn't made a success as a businessman Emily, but he has made a success as a Human Being. And that's the biggest success anybody could ask for. Think it over, Emily, don't throw away a lifetime of happiness if you haven't something to take its place.
