I'm not sure how many necklaces there were, but I do know that they were all held together by one big strap that  made it easy and took less time to take off and on.(The thing weighed over 20 pounds!)

An interesting note you may notice is that generally he had a symbol for one of every major religion including a cross(Catholic), a Star of David(Jewish) and a moon(Muslim), in which Face uses to free them from being tied up by cutting through the snap ties around their wrists in the episode "Deadly Maneuvers."(BA gets mad at Murdock when he breaks the chain!) Also there was almost always a big letter "T" hanging in the jumble as well.

Altogether along with his rings, bracelets and earrings, he had to have had at least a million dollars worth of jewelry on all the time. But now he has dropped the entire gold wearing look out of respect for Hurricane Katrina victims.(See news article on A-Team page)

I liked how he would switch it up.. some episodes he would have a ton of gold on and then sometimes only like 3 chains..

I remember hearing how when Mr. T had cancer he ended up having to sell a lot of his gold to pay for his treatment. His fashion statement actually ended up being an incredibly wise investment (The price of gold certainly has gone up since the 1980's) and it helped to save his life. Thankfully he wasn't like other 80's stars who probably spent their dough on hookers and blow.
