The 40th Annual Academy Awards were postponed from April 8th and held on April 10, 1968 from the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, Santa Monica. Bob Hope once again hosts this year's awards ceremony. Performers include Louis Armstrong, Sammy Davis, Jr., Angela Lansbury, and Sergio Mendes. Among the presenters are Claire Bloom, Macdonald Carey, Edith Evans, Sidney Poitier, and Barbra Streisand. - Katharine Hepburn, who won for Best Actress for Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, didn't attend the ceremony because her long-time love Spencer Tracy received a posthumous nomination for the same film. She thought that if she won she would cry too much and wouldn't be able to make a speech.
