  • The movie that started it all...

    10
When I first saw this movie several years ago, I thought it was best movie ever! I don't care for the series, but I really do like this movie. My favorite scenes include: Jimmy, Carl, and Sheen going to Retroland, the kids doing what they want when they find their parents missing, Jimmy and the gang fixing rockets to go into space, the kids in space, the kids fighting the aliens and Poultra, etc. I haven't seen this movie in awhile, so I can't remember all of the scenes. All I really have to say, is that this movie deserved the 3 stars it received!!!moreless

  • A hillarious film!

    9.8
This is one of the best TV episodes (well, it's a movie, but still) I have ever seen. I never got board once. Spectacular! Jimmy sends a satellite/toaster thing to a specices of aliens. It has a video all about Jimmy's life, including his "delicious" parents. They kidnap every adult in Retroville. (with the exception of Mrs. Fowl, who was shrunk by Jimmy's shrink ray, and who wants a little lunch?)

Also Jimmy sneaks out to Retroville. They are going to sacrafice there parents to a giant chicken. Now it's up to Jimmy, Carl, Sheen (he actually helps), Cindy, Libby and all the rest of Retroville's youth to save their parents. At the end, they do succeed. This wasn't just hillarious, it was also adventurous. How can you not like a show with a movie like this?moreless
  • A great movie.

    7.1
This was a great movie it was great way to start off the series. It had comedy and adventure and the animation was excellent. But the reason why I give it a 7.1 because it could've done a little better it could've stuck with the same plot but it could've got more in depth and plus they could've also added some stuff in here that could've paid off later on in the series but still it was a great movie.moreless
  • Never trust the strangers, only the police men.

    8.0
Ok, I can't write a full review without going to the basics. This is the first full lenght movie and there are some things like premature animation and the characters, like how they did look.

As for premature animation, I mean the animators used the technology they got. They had no sofisticated computers or advanced programs like they have now. The programs they used were Lightwave and Maya.

As for the main characters, they looked different from the beggining. Later, the animators and the production made some changes to have them look a bit older.

In this movie, Jimmy has his regular atom red shirt, his long hair, but instead he has blue shorts and orthopedic shoes. Also his face looks more big and childish than now.

Cindy has her hair formed in pig-tails, a long pink shirt and some black pants. Her face looks more childish, too, and her eyes look more big than in the series.

Carl is a bit more fat and his hair is the same but more short.

Libby has her normal look until "Beach Party Mummy" and Sheen looks the same.

The story begins when Jimmy received a message from outerspace, and he, Carl, his best friend, and Goddard, his mechanical canine respond by sending a satellite toaster-receptor from Jimmy's prototype rocket.

He has a discussion with his parents, her mother Judy and also his dad Hugh, because they had told Jimmy many times to not to talk to strangers. Rule number one for a 10-year-old kid.

He then heads up to school, where Jimmy shows off his newest invention, the Shrink Ray, and where we meet some of the characters that will follow the gang, including Cindy, Libby and Sheen.

When he comes back from school with his friends, Carl and Sheen, the three get the notice that RetroLand, a theme park, is opening its doors the same day at night. But they also realize that it's school night so they won't be allowed to go by their parents.

Jimmy then tries to persuade her mom by making her some presents. But he gets grounded because of his insistence and because of a rocket that malfuntions. Also Hugh, there's a funny scene when his father has a talk with him about rockets. Jimmy finally decides he'll sneak out.

Meanwhile, the aliens that received the satellite receptor, the evil 'Yolkians', commanded by King Goobot and his goofy sidekick, Ooblar, set a plan to kidnap all the parents in Retroville and give them to their chicken-god Poultra.

When Jimmy finds out what happened, he, his friends, and all the kids in Retroville must go to the rescue.

This movie sends the message to never trust on people you don't know anything about.

Jimmy was obviously more excited to know about other life forms in the universe than listen to his parents, and that put him into trouble.

If he paid a little more of attention like his friends and classmates.....

Ok, so, we notice some of the first Jimmy/Cindy relationship things.

When they are at school, arguing, we just see a little fight, like they were hating each other. We all know now that they argue like usual to cover their love/hate feelings.

Later, Cindy is awestruck because of flying on space and it results on Cindy smiling at Jimmy and Jimmy returning the smile. They are both like this for a second, then they realize what they are doing and they back off.

More deep into the movie and in the dungeon, Cindy expresses to Jimmy that she was the smartest in school until he came and that she kinda 'needs' him to get out of the prison.

All this get covered up when Cindy says Jimmy if he tells anybody she was nice to him, he would end like a splattered egg (aka: defeated Yolkian).

There are some scenes that resembles other movies, like Star Wars: Episode I, Star Trek, Godzilla, The Blair Witch Project, The Alan Parson's Project, Batman and Superman, not only to impress the kids, but to impress and entertain the adults. And looks like this movie really made it.

If it's anything more great in this movie is to have some cool music. Songs from Aaron Carter (The Lion King, "I can't wait to be king"), like "Go Jimmy Jimmy", "Leave it up to me" and "AC's Alien Nation"; "Parent's Just Don't Understand" with Romeo; The Ramones with "Blitzrieg Pop" (cutted when it says "shoot'em in the back now") and many more.

I strongly recommend this movie to kids from 8 to 99 years old :).moreless

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (12)

    • The radar says that there is no sign of adult life from, but when the kids are partying, you see Jimmy's teacher (who's tiny due to Jimmy's shrink ray) fighting a caterpillar. But isn't she an adult?

    • This is the only time Carl has shoulder straps.

    • When Goddard gives options in this movie, he reads them out loud. Later in the series, he is silent.

    • Goddard's license plate is registered for "Texas," expired in October 2003, and says "BAD DOG"

    • We don't see the Yolkians again until "The Egg-Pire Strikes Back" episode.

    • In the movie, Cindy has pigtails, wears a pink shirt, and wears black jeans. In the TV show, she has a ponytail, wears a green tanktop and wears corduroys. Keith Alcorn said this change was to make her look older.

    • In the theatrical trailer, there's a part where Cindy says, "You know, for a nerd, he sure comes in handy." But this line is not featured in the movie. Also, the trailer shows Cindy saying something about kicking Jimmy's butt, and then it was changed to Jimmy's can, and finally, it didn't appear in the movie at all. (The line was originally, "If we blow up, whatever's left of me is kicking your butt.") Her dialoge was also changed when Jimmy was showing his shrink ray in class. It changed from "Will it work on your big head?" to "What's the matter, Neutron? Aren't you short enough already?"

    • At Area 51, the General's nametag reads "POWERS." When that same person returns in "Substitute Creature," his nametag reads "ABERCROMBIE," and Miss Fowl calls him "Ernest Abercrombie."

    • When the camera flips to Hugh and Judy having breakfast while Jimmy crash-lands on the roof, bricks fall outside the window. The bricks must've come from the chimney, but the chimney's on the other side of the house. Unless the bricks bounced, there's no way they could've reached the kitchen windows.

    • When the Yolkian Prison Guard tells Goddard to halt, his eyes are brown. When he's out of his shell, ordering the kids back, his eyes are red.

    • The magnet that the Yolkian put on Jimmy's fridge to hold up the fake note moved. It was on one side of the top when he put it on and another when Jimmy took it off. Also, the magnet was on top of the message. How is that possible when the Yolkian put the magnet up while the stamp was still pressed to the paper?

    • When the kids are on Yolkus and the parents are all in rows with helmets on, there's a top shot where Jimmy's mom is on one side, with his dad on the other. Then the shot is on the ground, and the parents switched sides!

  • QUOTES (38)

    • Jimmy: Gotta blast!!

    • Carl: Hey, this astronaut food isn't too bad!
      Jimmy: That's toothpaste, Carl!!
      Carl: Oh.... minty!

    • Sheen: (points to Hugh) Jimmy, your dad is acting like a mind-controlled duck-man.

    • Sheen: I'm peeing... in the shower!
      (later)
Sheen: I'm still doing it. Go! Go! Go!

    • (Jimmy appears in front of the school bus on his bubble gum mobile)
Libby: (to Cindy) Hey, look! Neutron's got another one.
(the other kids look at Jimmy)
Cindy: Nice invention, Nerdtron. Too bad somebody already invented the bus.
Jimmy: Hey, guys! I got it down this time. Internal combustion's such old science! Bubble travel is the way of the future!!
(the bubble gum mobile hits a tree and Jimmy falls into the trash can)
Cindy: And I guess trees are like, the brakes! (the other kids laugh as they make it to school)

    • Hugh: Look, I was a kid once. I remember being grounded a whole week and not being allowed to go to my best friend's bachelor party.
      Judy: What did you do?
      Hugh: Actually I snuck out.

    • (seeing the aliens for the first time)
Jimmy: They've evolved beyond the need for conventional bodies! They must be an advanced species, millions of years ahead of us!!
Sheen: Wow... (to Carl) When I blow my nose, it looks like an advanced species too.
Cindy and Libby: (look at each other) Ewww!!!

    • Nick: Are you sure about this, Neutron?
Jimmy: (shows a piece of paper with information) Well the data seems to support his hypothesis.
Sheen: (grabs Jimmy's piece of paper) Never argue with the data! (leaves off trying desperately to read it)

    • Cindy: And my fossil-to-chromosome ratios clearly demonstrate that female dinosaurs, like this plesiosaurus, were the stronger and smarter of their species. But, so what else is new?
      (the class giggles)
Cindy: After class I'll be happy to demonstrate how boy dinosaurs got their butts kicked by girl dinosaurs on a regular basis!!

    • Jimmy: What girl wants to dance with a guy who looks like he should still be in Gymboree?
Carl: (quietly) I didn't think we liked girls yet, Jim.
Jimmy: Oh, we don't, we don't, no, not yet. However, one day, Carl, an influx of hormones that we can't control will overpower our better judgment and drive us to pursue the female species against our will.

    • Hugh: You see, Jimmy... Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy, Jim, James, son! Let me tell you a little bit about rockets. They're big people things, son, and you can't just go with these big hirey, firy things. Because that's what rockets are. Rockets are flying things!! Well, I hope this talk has helped. (he leaves the room) Oh, and by the way. Mom says you're grounded. Sorry! (he closes the door)

    • Sheen: Ultra Dad!!!
      Sheen's Dad: Ultra Son!!

    • Jimmy: All right, this is it! These crummy aliens stole our parents, it's time to show them what we're made of! We're tough, we're mean! Darn it, we're carbon based life forms! So, who's going to kick buttocks?!
      All: The carbonated life forms!!!

    • Ooblar: Can I-can I space another?
      King Goobot: No...
      Ooblar: Oh, please, brother!
King Goobot: I said "no", Ooblar...
Ooblar: (sing-song) Oh please oh please oh please oh please oh please oh pleeease!
King Goobot: I would love for that to stop!

    • (about the aliens)
Judy: I don't care how advanced they say they are, Jimmy. If your father and I haven't met them, they're strangers. Right, Hugh?
Hugh: Yeah, well, except for policemen. They're there to help you.

    • Ooblar: Hello!! (a piece of toast bread is on the floor; nobody answers) What galaxy are you from?!
      King Goobot: Ooblar!
      Ooblar: Where is your leader?!
King Goobot: Ooblar! Stop it! It's... toast.
Ooblar: Oh! Hello, Toast! I greatly admire your ship.

    • (the Aliens are making the parents do a Chicken Dance)
Nick: They're making our parents dance so lame!!
Carl: No, my dad really dances like that.
(the camera shows Carl's father dancing weird)

    • (accidentally drinks Jimmy's burping soda
Hugh: (burps) Well, at least that came from the attic and not from the basement!

    • (after being reject about going to Retroland)
Jimmy: Did you just say no?
      Judy: Yes.
      Jimmy: Yes!
      Judy: No.
      Jimmy: No?
      Judy: Yes.
      Jimmy: Yes!
      Judy: Jimmy.
Jimmy: But all my friends are going and anybody who's matters is gonna be there, Mom.
Judy: Well, I matter, you matter, and your father matters. But, you're not going.

    • Nick: So then, these three film-makers find all these sticks in the trees - shaped like stick people. And the girl film-maker starts cryin'. And her nose starts dripping. And they don't have any tissues at all!
      Carl: None?
Nick: None. And then, they hear these noises in the woods, so they leave the tent.
Carl: DON'T LEAVE THE TENT! DON'T LEAVE THE TENT!
Nick: Oh, yeah Carl. They leave the tent, when out of nowhere comes the...
Arnie: (comes out of nowhere) Bl-bl-bl-bl-bl!
      (Everyone screams)
Nick: That was so choice! You should have seen your faces!
Sheen: Did they really leave the tent?

    • Sheen: I do so relish these times of peril.

    • Jimmy: Carl, show and tell!
(Carl whips out his inhaler and squirts a Yokian in the face. The alien goes flying into a wall, where he cracks. The other two Yokians look at Carl.)
Carl: You want a piece of me?! YOU WANT A PIECE OF ME?!
(The Yokians scream and fly off.)
Carl: (twirls his inhaler) I didn't think so.

    • Hugh: Because that's what rockets are ... rockets are flying things!

    • Carl: Aw, don't feel bad, Jimmy. I mean, some of the greatest inventors of all time started out as complete, hopeless failures, too.
      Sheen: Yeah.
Jimmy: Well, thank you, Carl, I feel better ... I think.

    • Hugh: But if all your friends were named Cliff, would you jump off them? I don't think you would.

    • Kid: (singing and dancing in mis-matched clothing) My clothes don't match, my clothes don't match, I'm out in public, and my clothes don't match!

    • Judy: James Isaac Neutron! I see you up there. How many times have we told you not to launch yourself off the roof?
Jimmy: Probably nine. (Goddard nods) Exactly nine. They say repetition is good for a developing brain.

    • Sheen: But ... I don't have my driver's license. I have no hand-eye coordination!

    • Jimmy: Fusion mix stable ... engine cycling at one million gigajoules ... cool! We didn't blow up.

    • Miss Fowl: Sheen, this is the seventh week in a row you've shown UltraLord in class!
Sheen: Miss Fowl, this one is different!

    • Jimmy: Cindy? Cindy, w-why are you being so nice to me?
Cindy: Because there's a bunch of kids out here that need you... (pauses) and I do, too....

    • Sheen: (singing loudly) UltraLord is not afraid of chickens! He is not afraid! (BOOM) (singing quietly) Okay, he may be a little bit afraid of chickens....

    • Jimmy: Go on, Nick! Show 'em what you're made of!
(Nick approaches Poultra, who chooses that moment to hatch out of her shell)
      Nick: AAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! (runs away)
      Cindy: My hero?
Sheen: Okay, we need a new plan ... probably a Nick-less one....

    • Sheen: Orbiting around Jimmy's big head. Estimated time to ear ... seven minutes.

    • Jimmy: Hang on! We're passing through the stratosphere! ... Now the mesosphere! ... Entering ionosphere!
Carl: Now I know why they all end in fear!

    • Jimmy: According to the Newville Journal of Medicine , monkeys are easily influenced by positive reinforcement, e.g. the giving of a banana. And, since human and monkey DNA only differ by two percent, the same principle should work on our parents.
Carl: My dad's allergic to bananas.

    • Sheen: (holds up a plutonium fuel rod) Hey, Jimmy! Do these fusion reactors need fuel rods?
Jimmy: C'mon, Sheen, it's not rocket science! You just have to--actually, I guess it is rocket science! No fuel rods, Sheen.
Sheen: Oh, okay. (tosses the fuel rod away and freezes up as it explodes)

    • Hugh: Well, what do you know. The chimney fell off again.

  • NOTES (6)

  • ALLUSIONS (12)

    • Name: Jimmy Neutron

Jimmy Neutron is a nickname that was given to James Chadwick for discovering the neutron.

    • Jimmy: Fasten your seatbelt, Goddard. It's gonna be a bumpy ride.

This quote is based on rides at theme parks.

    • N/A: TV Land
When Hugh is flipping through the channels, you see the TV Land symbol. Tv Land is an actual channel that shows mainly old shows.

    • N/A: Girl-Eating Plant

The Girl-Eating Plant looks strikingly similar to that of Audrey II from the musical stage show and movie, Little Shop of Horrors.

    • Sheen: This is Ultralord!

Ultralord is a reference to the 1966 Japanese television series Ultraman.

    • Ultralord: Apperance

Ultralord, Sheen's action figure, seems to be a combonation of "Superman" and "Batman."

    • Spaceship Race: Concept

The "sun scene," where Jimmy's spaceship is flying faster and being followed by the Yokian spaceships (all of which explode, save for Goobot's) is a spoof of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, when Anakin Skywalker competes in a race against Sebulba.

    • Nick: So then, these three film-makers find all these sticks in the trees - shaped like stick people. And the girl film-maker starts cryin'. And her nose starts dripping. And they don't have any tissues at all!

Nick's scary story is a spoof of The Blair Witch Project.

    • Retroland Ride: Show Me the Mummy

This particular ride name is a parody of the quote "Show me the money" from the movie Jerry Maguire.

    • Retroland Ride: Eye in the Sky

This is a reference to a song by the Alan Parsons Project, "Eye In The Sky." It also resembles Jimmy's head.

    • Poultra: Apperence

The giant chicken monster, Poultra, is a spoof on Mothra from Godzilla and the Mosura (aka Mothra) movies.

    • Libby: Incoming message!
      Jimmy: On-screen!

That scene is a spoof of a Star Trek scene: someone would inform the captain of the "incoming message," which would appear on the starship's "windshield," like Goobot appeared.
