Episode Summary

EDIT

Upon encountering the Van Patten rays, Jimmy, Carl, Sheen, Cindy, and Libby have all obtained superheroes' abilities. Sheen can run really fast, Cindy has super strength, Libby can become invisible, and Carl can burp real loud. But only Jimmy's hair has become green, and the others laugh at him because he has no superpowers. Together, the group becomes the N Men, but they kick Jimmy out because he has no powers. Soon, Jimmy finds out that the military is out for them, and Jimmy needs to find a cure to get rid of the superpowers, but he can't find any, and he becomes aggravated, mutating into a freakishly large boulder guy who is out to defeat the others. Will he?

  • This episode is crawling with hilarious spoofs on past super-hero movies.

    8.5
I really loved this episode. It was undoubtedly hilarious and had me laughing the entire time. This episode was a fresh new take on the classic storyline of a group of characters obtaining super powers. I love how all the powers were spoofs on other superheroes. Sheen's power for incredible speed is just lie Dash from The Incredibles, Libby's invisibility and forcefields are like Violet from The Incredibles, Cindy's super strength, flight, and super vision are like Superman, and Jimmy is a complete spoof on the incredible Hulk.

I also like the idea of the mutant gene being fatal, with its treatment absolutely necessary for their survival. The urgency of the antidote puts in the right amount of suspense, without overdoing it.

All in all, this episode was very enjoyable, and I enjoy watching it every single time.moreless

jimmy and his friends get superpowers (well, mostly just his friends). they try to do good for retroville but the citizens think they are evil, so the government kidnaps jimmy's friends (Because jimmy does not have any powers). now jimmy must come up with a way to save his friends. will he help them after the way they treated him about not having powers?

the first half of the episode was pretty funny but the second half, with jimmy going evil and the gang trying to escape, was kind of boring, and as such, my overall grade's a C or somoreless
  • just plain hurtful.

    5.0
I like the series, but the episode was very unpleasant that the whole thing was horrible. The N men was just a ripoff from the Fantastic 4 and the Hulk and not the good kind. I mean Jimmy turning from an orange monster was just a ripoff from the movie "the Hulk" and the fact that the others (Libby, Sheen, Carl, and Cindy) powers were similar to some of Marvel's comics and Movies. this episode really stank, and when i saw this episode i had to go to TV.com and write a review about this ripoff that the series made.

Tomorrow I'll write about "Attack of the Twonkies" and see how it relates to "Gremlins".moreless
  • When Jimmy, Cindy, Libby, Carl and Sheen get super powers, they plan tot use them for good... but they keep running into problems.

    9.8
This was a really neat episode. I loved the whole superhero idea, and liked the concept of the different powers that each person got. Not to mention the fact that Cindy actually admitted that she loved Jimmy! Okay, okay, so she fainted before she could finish her sentence, but we get the point.
  • A great episode that nearly shows the truth about the Jimmy/Cindy love/hate thing.

    10
A great episode in probably the best season of Jimmy Neutron ever. I love the fact that Jimmy is orange and powerful, Cindy is even more powerful and can fly, Sheen can vibrate very quickly, Libby can turn invisable, and Carl... well... HE BURPS!!! What a great installment that deserves another huge season 3 ten. It brought memories of the 2001 movie, Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius. For example, the magic of a great episode coming to life before everyone's eyes, then showing the Jimmy/Cindy love/hate thing, then capping off the episode with a funny Carl joke. Overall, another great episode, in the greatest season of the history of life.

    • This is the first episode with a new introduction. The theme song is the same, but the clips making up the introduction are different. Also, at the end of the theme song, instead of just Jimmy, Goddard, Carl, Sheen, and Cindy, Libby is featured as well.

    • A pink twonky makes a cameo in this episode.

    • Sam was provoking Hulk Jimmy by throwing tomatoes at him, but the tomatoes only bounced off Hulk Jimmy's face and body. Shouldn't Sam's tomatoes have smacked?

    • Why was Sheen's dad throwing tomatoes at Hulk Jimmy? Shouldn't he have been part of Save Our Mutant Kids? And earlier, you can see Sheen's dad agree with Sam, supporting the No Muties idea!

    • There's an error with the "FATAL GENE" countdown that VOX displays on-screen. It goes from 5:59:43 to 5:59:38 and then returns to 5:59:43. In another shot, the countdown goes from 5:59:38 to 5:59:33 and then returns to 5:59:38 again.

  • QUOTES (11)

    • Sam: Can I just say one thing? PIE TRUCK!

    • Sheen: Prepare for defeat from my super-fast punches! But we'll still be best friends, right?

    • General Ambercrombie: Brave kids.... Hey! If we get lucky, maybe they'll destroy each other!

    • General Ambercrombie: Great merciful jellybean!

    • Cindy: Carl, why haven't you tried to perfect your super belches?
Carl: I'm scared to, for my burps are way too dangerous.
Sheen: But Carl, your destructive potential is part of the reason we love you!
Carl: (shaking Sheen) Do you not understand!? No more spicy food or carbonated beverages! I've got to guard against even the slightest hiccup!
Sheen: You mean no more chalupas?! I feel your pain, dude.

    • Sheen: Let those who do evil beware! From this day forth, we shall be known as the Fantastic League of Justice-brining Avenging Men!
      Libby: Excuse me?
      Sheen: (grudgingly) And two girls.

    • Sheen: (vibrating) Engines down! Losing power! Abandon ship!
Libby: You're enjoying that massage chair a little too much.

    • Cindy: Guys! Oh, there's some kind of rampaging, orange monster tearing up the town!
Sheen: Orange? Let's see, who do we know that's orange...? Nope, drawin' a blank!

    • (during Hulk Jimmy's rampage)
Judy: Jimmy, stop! You don't know what you're doing!
Hugh: Oh, I think he does, Sugarbooger. Look at those abs.... You been liftin' the free weights, son?
Hulk Jimmy: (more humanely) M-mom? D-dad?
Judy: That's right, dear. We want to help!
Hugh: I'm willing to spot you! What do you bench, three, four thousand pounds?

    • Sheen: Guys, get serious. We've all been endowed with incredible power. And I say we use that power to attack Tokyo! (rushes off and returns just as quickly as a Japanese warrior) Guys, come on, pick up the pace!
Jimmy: Sheen's right! Except for the part about Tokyo...

    • Cindy: Jimmy! Wait! I'm sorry ... truely, sincerely sorry.
Hulk Jimmy: (throws large boulder aside) What Blonde Girl say?
Cindy: You don't deserve to have me make fun of you. You're a great guy. You're smart a-and talented....
Hulk Jimmy: Blonde Girl try to trick Jimmy!
Cindy: N-no, I swear! I know I'm always mean to you, but I do it so you won't notice my real feelings! The truth is I sorta, secretly l ... l ... lll.... (passes out)
Hulk Jimmy: (picks up Cindy) Augh! Secretly what?! Like? Loathe? Love? (sets Cindy down) Blonde Girl try to be nice to Jimmy. Maybe she not so bad after all. Maybe.... (transforms back into his normal self)

  • NOTES (4)

  • ALLUSIONS (17)

    • Jimmy: Who am I? I'm your worst nightmare.

This is a reference to Spider-Man comics and movie adaptations.

    • Hulk-Jimmy: Transformation

When Jimmy is turning into the Hulk-like creature, his eyes change from blue to green, the same way Danny Fenton's(from Danny Phantom) does when he is angry or when he changes from Danny Fenton to Danny Phantom.

    • Mrs. Fowl: Her perch.

While Mrs. Fowl sits on the park bench, Cindy constantly throws random objects at her. The second time something is thrown at Mrs. Fowl, the large sombrero sign, she jumps up onto the bench and perches on it like a bird would; alluding to her namesake.

    • Sheen: (to Abercrombie) Actually, we prefer "The Fantastic League of Justice Bringing Avenging Men... and Two Girls."

This alternative title of the "N-Men" seems to be the combination of four famous teams of superheros, "The Fantastic Four," "The Justice League of America," "The Avengers" and "X-Men."

    • Vibrating Lad: Powers & Costume

Sheen's ability to vibrate his molecules at superhuman speed is very similiar to "The Flash's." In addition, Sheen's orange costume has little wings at his head, which is also very similiar to The Flash's orange-red costume.

    • Jimmy: Appearance & Powers

Jimmy's superhero form seems to have some elements from "The Hulk" from "The Incredible Hulk" and "The Thing" from "Fantastic Four." Jimmy's craggy orange appearance is similar to The Thing's. However Jimmy's out of control rage, strength, physical invulnerability, style and tone of speaking ("Jimmy smash blond girl"), and the way how he shifts between modes through anger are very similiar to the Hulk's. In addition, Bruce Banner, the man who turned into the Hulk is a scientist like Jimmy.

    • Special Girl: Name & Powers

Cindy's superhero persona, "Special Girl," seems to be a parody of "Supergirl." She has the same superhuman strength, remote vision, and flying abilities as Supergirl.

    • Invisible Sister: Name, Powers & Costume

Libby's superhero persona, "Invisible Sister" seems to be a parody of the "Invisible Woman" from "Fantastic Four." She has the same power of invisibility and telekinetic force field projection, in adiition her costume is blue just like the Invisible Woman's Fantastic Four costume.

    • Burp Boy: Powers

Carl's power of emitting strong super sonic waves by burbing is very similar to Banshee's "sonic screams" from "X-Men"

    • Burp Boy: Costume

Carl's costume looks very similar to Plastic Man's.

    • Cindy: (while lifting a telephone pole) Get down, kitty! Get down!

The scene where Cindy tries to get a cat off a telephone pole is very similiar to the scene in "The Incredibles," where Mr. Incredible tries to get a kitten off the telephone ploe but fails.

    • Scene: Golfing on Mercury

This might have been a reference to the Apollo 14 lunar mission, where Commander Alan Shepard played with a makeshift six-iron and two golf balls on the moon.

    • Screen Caption: Area 86: Mojave Desert

There is a region in Southeast California called called The Mojave Desert. In addition, Ambercrombie's description of Area 86 as "the most secure facility in the country" is a parody of "Area 51," the site where many people mistakenly believe the govemment keeps space aliens.

    • Cindy: Listen, William of Orange! I've had enough of this "we" business. You know what your power is? Super irritation!

William I, Prince of Orange, Count of Nassau (April 24, 1533 – July 10, 1584) was the main leader of the Dutch revolt against the Spanish that set off the Eighty Years' War and resulted in the formal independence of the United Provinces in 1648.

    • Cindy: In your dreams, Oompa Loompah Boy!

Cindy is referencing the movie Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory. The oompa loompahs were small, orange employees of Wonka's factory.

    • Episode Title: The N-Men

The title of this episode is a parody of the "X-Men," a popular comic book, cartoon, and feature-length movie about genetically mutated metahumans who are shunned from society from being different but still protect the Earth from the more dangerous and evil mutants using their superhuman abilities.

    • Superpowers: Origin

The way that Jimmy and the gang obtained their superpowers is very similiar to how the Fantastic Four got their abilities, which is from cosmic radiation from a space voyage.
