Clara and Harriet think that they and their husbands should do something with a bit of spontaneity, having an upcoming dance in mind. The next day, at the country club, a freelance pilot Ted Huggins (Ben Bennett) invites Ozzie and Joe to come with him for a little jaunt to Mexico City, as Ted puts it. Caught in a rush, Ted says that if they'd like to come, to meet him at the airport in an hour. They do, and once they're in the air, they both feel like parachuting out and hitchhiking home. But its not too long before they're in Mexico — Ted explains they won't be going to Mexico City but rather a small village in a remote area.
Ozzie and Joe agreed to take the ride just to have lunch in Mexico City, to do something spontaneous at their wives' suggestion (not quite what they had in mind though). In the village there are no restaurants and Mexico City is a three days trip by burro. Ozzie and Joe however find a taco vendor and they indulge themselves in tacos, tamales, and enchiladas. Joe asks Ozzie to telephone Harriet to boast that they are calling from Mexico, but he cannot reach her. Ted's cargo is delayed and Ozzie and Joe arrive home at 1 in the morning. Turbulent weather also didn't help things, nor Joe's stomach.
The wives have waited for them to come home to see what kind of story they have cooked up. They bought some trinkets from the taco vendor to appease the wives, but in the end Ozzie and Joe have been hoodwinked.
Thinking the dance had taken place that night, the boys figured they had found a way out of going to it, but the cagey wives had figured they would have come up with an excuse not to go, so they intentionally gave their husbands the wrong date for the dance. They will be going later in the week.
