The Adventures of Pete & Pete

Show Summary

  • Ended
The Adventures of Pete and Pete was a surreal comedy in which a peaceful suburban neighborhood was a strange and skewed world as seen through the eyes of pre-teens. Wellsville, USA contained many different unique characters, such as: two brothers that were both named Pete, the metal plate in their mom's head, Artie the spandex-wearing super-hero, and Petunia, little Pete's tatoo.''''The Adventures of Pete and Pete originated as a series of one-minute vignettes in 1990, was expanded into a series of five specials, and then became a regular series in late 1993. The show was filmed in Leonia, New Jersey. Episodes (or portions of episodes) were also filmed in the New Jersey towns of South Orange and Cranford.''''The theme song to the show is called "Hey Sandy" and is sung by the band Polaris. The band has an album entitled Music from the Adventures of Pete & Pete that features nothing but songs from the show.''''The lyrics to the theme song are as follows:''Hey smilin' strange, you're lookin' happily deranged''Can you settle to shoot me?''Or have you picked your target yet, hey Sandy ai yai yai yai...''Don't you talk back, ai yai yai yai, hey Sandy''Four feet away, end of speech it's the end of the day''We was only funnin', but guiltily I thought''you had it comin', hey Sandy, ai yai yai yai''Don't ya talk back, ai yai yai yai, hey Sandy, hey...''''In 1995, The Adventures of Pete and Pete received a Cable Ace Award for Outstanding Children's Series.''''In recent years, The Adventures of Pete and Pete made its first release on DVD in 2005 under the Rewind Collection title. The Nickelodeon company apparently gave in to demands by fans of the "cult classic" and released the first season of the series along with Nick's other classic show, "Clarissa Explains it All" in May 17th 2005. Sadly, the Rewind Collection's only other release as of now is the second season of P&P, released in November 11, 2005. Although the third and final season was scheduled for a February 28, 2005 release, it has been completely removed from the release schedule without any excuse.moreless

Though I was in my late teens when I first discovered this show, I was instantly taken with it's unconventional outlook, it's strange tone, and unusual humor. I bought the DVDs and watching as an adult, I still love the show, and now enjoy it on another level, the oddball humor and subtle emotion that I didn't realize as a teen. If only there were more shows like this for my children to enjoy. It avoided typical situational comedy and shmaltzy drama, but was able to achieve both with it's subtlety. The characters were ideal, the boys and their parents, with a great cast, and surprising list of cameos, my favorite, the multi-talented Iggy Pop, as the father of now-hottie Michelle Trachtenberg's character Nona.moreless

This use to be a good series on Nickoleon for kids and teenagers at the time when it was on air. It was both funny and serious at the same time. I use to watch it whenever it came on. If this series was being made in a new modern version, I would most likely watch it when it come on television. Anyway, I love this show when I was young and glad I was able to see it when it was on television. For those who have not seen the series at all should get it if you are a kid.moreless

One of the most classic and greatest shows ever, not to mention from the '90s! Pete & Pete was one of my favorites from the '90s. Whenever I watch this show, no matter how old I am, I can't help but crack up ... That's because alot of the elements in this show related to my life, and that's one of the great things about this. Also, the plots and the jokes are all hilarious. This show is just absolutely fabulous and perfect in every way. As soon as I hear that amazing theme song at the beginning, I feel like I'm back in the '90s. I had so many good times watching this show. And I sorta feel bad for the kids who grew up in the late 90s and the 00s, cause they missed out on the 90s! Perfect show!!!moreless

  • Another Classic Nickelodeon Show.

The Adventures of Pete and Pete was another show in the Golden Age of Nickelodeon. The show had a catchy theme song done by a musical group called 'Polaris'. For many years I use to have the word 'Polaris' in my screen names as a tribute to the show. I even bought the CD when it came out. Pete and Pete had a way of portraying the mind of a child with all the imagination and wonder life has to offer; from super heroes to combating the evil adult conspiracy. Pete and Pete had a strange randomness that many kids, including myself, enjoyed immensely. The show was to Nick as Luna Lovegood is to Harry Potter. No other show came close to the strange goodness that was The Adventures of Pete and Pete. The show is truly a classic.moreless

If you took seinfeld and put it in a format that was appropriate for the entire family this is what you would get. this is basically seinfeld for kids. so surreal, so funny, somewhat forgotten. it would be nice if nickelodeon showed re runs of it because the line up on nickelodeon right now is terrible. this is a comedy classic that has gone relatively unremembered and needs a time slot on some channel. sure season 1 and 2 are on dvd but it would be nice if you could just watch it on tv again. but like many good classic nick shows it's gone off the air forever.moreless
