The Adventures of Robin Hood

Show Summary

The Adventures of Robin Hood series, intended primarily for children, featuring Robin of Locksley and his merry men in Sherwood Forest, who protect England from the evil machinations of Prince John and the Sheriff of Nottingham, while good King Richard is away at the Crusades. An unusual television series at the time in that it frequently re-used the same actors in different roles, or different actors in a recurring roles.

  • This series is wonderfull, it may be old, it maybe silly, but it is just great fun. Richard Greene is outstanding, there are brilliant cameos from celebs (before they were famous).10/10moreless

I am too young to have seen this on tv, but was lucky enough to find a vhs of this when i was younger, i watched it repeatedly, until recently i saw the dvd's had been released, i bought them all.

There is not one flat episode in there...all the characters are great, all hitting the right note (unlike the modern bbc incarnation) marion is perfect, as are tuck and little john..but special praise for the sheriff.

It is silly, and old but still not outdated. After a few seasons it became a fascination to note how many times the same set peice was used to represent a different part of the country (the same castle apparently being built several times over). So too did the hammed up death scenes of a few of the sherriffs men, taking several tumbles before finally passing. These are not critiscms they just add to the charm and fun of this classic tv show.

This show was so great that i have bought many of the related series, "The Adventures of William Tell" and "The Adventures of Sir Lancelot" being among my favourites.moreless
  • Robin Hood and his colorful band use wits, tricks, and weaponary to stay ahead of the Sheriff of Nottingham.

A somewhat obscure show that really deserves a second look. A brillaint cast and some realsitic scenery help set the tone for a simple, loveable, and somewhat comical historic tale.

Richard Greene is convincing, although not particularly remarkable in the title role. His supporters, such as Archie Duncan and Bernadette O'Farrel help to carry the show for him and make it more enjoyable. He's essentially playing straightman to them. Like many shows of the period, some of the effects and fight scenes are fake and silly. This is before special effects however, so one can't be too critical. A whole lot of aimless, silly fun.moreless
  • King Richard the Lionhearted is still fighting the Crusades. Robin of Locksley returns to his home to find Prince John and the Sheriff of Nottingham abusing their power and oppressing the people through taxation.moreless

    9.1
Childrens series, "must see TV" for me, back in the day. Robin does what he can to alleviate the peoples' suffering. He is helped by theives and poachers who did what they had to do to keep their families fed. They become a band of outlaws who hide out in Sherwood Forest, and "robbed from the rich to give to the poor." They were aided by Friar Tuck and Maid Marian. In the time this was televised, roles were simply drawn, the bad guys were really bad and the good guys had the purest motives. This series had action and humor. Interesting to watch and compare to the new Robon Hood series on BBC America. There was also a movie with Richard Greene reprising his role, "Sword of Sherwood Forest" 1961.moreless

  • Oh my god, this episode was really quite terrible and cringworthy to watch! The acting was very bad but it matched the writing.

Oh my god, this episode was really quite terrible and cringworthy to watch! The acting was very bad but it matched the writing. The appearance of Pete from Fall Out Boy was just silly and the way as many of the characters could just be in a scene with him learning how to cook or kissing him due to believing it was dream!?!
