Decent pilot episode for the series, but nothing that is to deep or more than what you see on the screen (what you see is what you get). Scott James Wells, who plays Lex Luthor this season, doesn't come of villainous at all but just a rich snob that seems to be too spoiled for his own good. Between the two series, Smallville is definitely superior. There is a dark/serious tone taken with Smallville it is camp with this series. Not to say that it is bad, but it's comparing apples to oranges since they shouldn't really be compared. Overall, pretty good, but I don't know how well the episode would have been if it lasted an hour. Thiry minutes seemed the perfect length for this story.moreless

  • For a thirty-minute sindicated (and probably after school) television show from the late eighties, this one isn\'t half bad, at least judging from the pilot.

I was only five years old when this series was on the air, and that could be why I don\'t remember it. Still, I love the classic DC heros and heroines like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman...and so I decided to pick up this little gem and give it a try.

I wasn\'t really disappointed. Granted, I went into this show anticipating that it would be a little campy and the special effects would not be Speilberg-worthy.

The pilot episode was well done, all things considered. The episode is not filled with needless character information, like so many pilots who try to introduce you to all of the characters as quickly as possible. This almost always makes for boring pilots, and I\'m happy to say that this series begins with action.

The episode is fairly formulaic and easily solved by the viewer, but since I doubt their target audience was 20 somethings in 1988, that\'s not something I would take off points for.

The actors, as well, are not Oscar worthy, but certainly aren\'t cringe worthy either. Although, Lex could well prove to be a very dry and uninteresting character if the actor who portrays him does not cease with his rather stale, and almost monotonous portrayal of Lex. The other actors, however, were all fairly good ones.

While I would not say that this is among my favorite series judging by simply this pilot, I would say that it is a good start to what could prove to be a very interesting 30 minute television show.

If this show is watched with a little humor and understanding, you\'re bound to enjoy it.moreless

    • (Talking about returning the Jewel of Techacal) Clark: Where's the temple? Gerald: Even if you could find it, it'd be too late. Clark: Not for Superboy. I might know how to get a hold of him. Edit
    • (While Lex attempts to steal the Jewel of Techacal) Lex: Ah, the one they call Superboy. Superboy: Why am I not surprised to find you here, Lex. Could it be because you always have your greedy paws where they don't belong? Lex: Well put, Superboy. Edit
    • T.J.: And speaking of Superboy, why don't you let me in on just how you get in contact with him. I mean, just in case I see a building just about to fall on some little old lady or something and you're not around to send up a flare. Clark: Sure, do what I do. T.J.: Uh-huh. Clark: Look in the Yellow Pages under "S." (As T.J. leaves Clark looks into the camera and smiles.) Edit
