The Alvin Show

Show Summary

Ross Bagdasarian, who with William Saroyan wrote "Come On-A My House" for Rosemary Clooney, created Alvin, Theodore and Simon, the Chipmunks for his recording "Witch Doctor." It was a smash hit novelty record which led to many recordings of Alvin and the Chipminks. In 1961, CBS greenlighted a prime time cartoon show, The Alvin Show, sponsored by Jell-O from General Foods. It was animated by Format Films under the direction of Jack Kinney and ran only one season on CBS, then went three years in repeats Saturday mornings.

The show featured a cartoon with the Chipmunks, one of Clyde Crashcup, an scientist (voice by Shep Menken) who claims to have invented everything), and a song spot with the Chipmunks, many derived from their recordings.

In 1979, fourteen years after being canceled by CBS, repeats of the show returned to NBC in the second season on their Saturday morning line-up. It was syndicated by Viacom afterwards.
