Do You Like American Candy?

Season 13, Episode 2, Aired
EDIT

Episode Summary

The ten remaining teams take off from their Pit Stop in a seventh century fortress in Salvador, Brazil and receive a clue instructing them to fly to Fortaleza, Brazil. Tensions erupt when one team feels they secured an early flight for all teams and seeks a small compensation in return. Once in Fortaleza, the teams receive a clue instructing them to travel to a beach known as Barraca d Manoel. Here, a Detour choice allows one team to set itself apart from the pack by providing a task suited to their skills. Later, a Roadblock requires searching for a clue hidden in plain sight. While some find the clue almost right away, others waste time searching for non-existent leads in distracting advertising information. One team twice makes time-wasting clue-reading mistakes, but ultimately another team is eliminated.moreless

  • This show got good so fast. Seems like a lot faster than most seasons. If you are a huge fan of this show like I am, the guy writing at www.spunkybean.com has a very, very funny weekly column recapping the show.moreless

    "Great"
Last week's Amazing Race recap proved very difficult to write, mainly because most of the episode was spent getting to know the racers, their back stories, and very little drama took place. We hardly got to know the Beekeepers, and they were eliminated. And, though we got to know a little about The Comic Book Guys, the Frat Nerds, Nick & Starr, and the rest, very little personality was revealed. Luckily, one pit stop later and we got our drama.

The biggest character revelation in the first leg came from Terence, and CBS took great delight in showing us, once again, that he's possessive, unreasonable, unstable, and more than a little insecure. Remember he was distraught that his girlfriend and race partner, Sarah, dared converse with other teams during a mid-leg camp-out? Starr was dreaming up names for her and Dallas's children, but poor Sarah got scolded for socializing in the slightest. In fact, the show opened with additional footage of Terence dressing down Sarah and making her cry. For now, we hate Terence and his possessiveness.

  • Awful tasks, the Detour was OK, but the Road Block was just awfuil!

    "Great"
This was a less interesting episode than the season premiere, as the tasks were completely uninnovative and quite boring.

The team of Ken & Tina were very annoying at the airport, and their arrogance seemed to shine through, and I hope that doesn't continue in the remainder of the race.

Thew Detour was OK. I wish more teams chose the 'Docket' as tha would've been fun to see, but overall, nothing special and nothing suspenseful.

The Road block was one of the worst tasks in the show's history. The task was so random, and I completely hated it. I hope they improve that and get some good tasks out for next week.

Overall, a very bad episode. I wouldn't recommend it, but hopefully this season will improve in the coming weeks!moreless

    ADD TRIVIA
    • Tidbits: All teams were bunched together at the start of the leg when they all caught the same 6:45 A.M. flight. Teams were provided with $125 for this leg of the race. Edit
    • Detour: In this episode, teams were given a Detour choice of either Beach It or Docket. The Beach It task required teams to travel to a nearby beach and then use logs to maneuver a 440 pound vessel through sand. In Docket, the task was to travel to the Port of Pecem and then scour a computer database for a number matching a number in the provided clue. Upon finding this number, any team doing the task would receive a matching alphabetic code and then had to search for a shipping container with the next clue. All teams except Mark and Bill opted for the Beach It task. Marisa and Brooke initially opted for Docket, but went in the wrong direction and therefore completed Beach It instead. Additionally, Kelly and Christy made a critical mistake by choosing Beach It but wasting time searching for the container referenced in the instructions for Docket. Edit
    • The teams finished in the following order: #1. Ken and Tina (Prize: One Off-Road Vehicle Each) #2. Mark and Bill #3. Terence and Sarah #4. Aja and Ty #5. Toni and Dallas #6. Nick and Starr #7. Kelly and Christy #8. Andrew and Dan #9. Marisa and Brooke #10. Anthony and Stephanie (ELIMINATED) Note: Terence and Sarah, Aja and Ty, and Toni and Dallas all arrived at approximately the same time and stood on the mat together. The same was true for Andrew and Dan and Marisa and Brooke. Edit

    • Stephanie: We're definitely going to move forward and have a future together and hopefully financially we'll be able to get back on track. You drive around in parts of Brazil, and, you know, it puts it in perspective. Edit
    • Anthony: We're close. We're not gonna be eliminated. Edit
    • Andrew: (when Nick ditches him after completing the Roadblock without returning to help) Where'd he go? Nick: Andrew had nothing to offer me. I don't mind playing dirty as long as I'm the the one that benefits from it. Edit
