Episode Summary

The teams receive a clue telling them to travel 150 miles from their Pit Stop in Saro, Santo Lucia to a bridge in Argentina. Spurred by a warning about an upcoming Yield, the teams finagle for transportation, with one team earning hostility by snatching another team's cab. The teams make their way to Nortes Sur and one team goes dangerously off-track. Eventually, the teams reach both the Yield (which none choose to use) and a Detour: Paddle or Pedal. Most teams choose Paddle, which involves rafting seven miles with professionals, but one falls behind after getting a flat tire while doing the biking task, Pedal. Later, the teams reach a Roadblock that involves eating four pounds of traditional Argentine food. One team-member, feeling that there's no way he can complete this, decides to take a four-hour penalty, and then convinces others to do it as well. It comes down once again to a rather close and somewhat surprising finish.moreless

  • Another great episode!

    It's off to Argentina!

I've been thinking that the only way for the teams to win is by verbally letting each other down specifically during a challenge which I think is mean but it may be the only way to stay in the game sometimes.

This episode was quite competitive and frustrating knowing that this leg was the first of only three Yields which made teams at the back fear the worst! but it wasn't used in the end which was ok. The Detour was pretty challenging how teams had to choose between Padel down the river or Pedal involving bikes. This brought teams into a compromising position to choosing the right one otherwise maybe costing that team the race. I thought it was funny how Lynn and Alex blew a tyre while riding the bikes during the Detour as the sailing teams past laughing at them. The Roadblock was an eating one ( like on Season 6 when team members kept puking while trying to eat a bowl of very spicy soup) so I thought Oh no! I sure hope Rob and Amber don't win, it just woudn't be right. In the end it was the two girls who got Eliminated.

Overall a nice Argentinian based episode with lots of competitiveness.moreless
  • Again fine example of Romber

Romber again is up to their old Survivor tricks but if you ask me about who to like between the two

Amvber is just the lesser of the two evils

Gretchen is again very funny and she is the comic relief

Of this Amazing Race like the Bowling Moms were in the fifth season

I am a meat eater but couldn't eat all that meat

Makes me want to be a vegetarian.

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (11)

    • The teams finished in the following order:

      #1. Lynn and Alex.
      #2. Uchenna and Joyce.
      #3. Brian and Greg.
      #4. Ron and Kelly.
      #5. Rob and Amber.
      #6. Ray and Deana.
      #7. Meredith and Gretchen.
      #8. Susan and Patrick.
      #9. Debbie and Bianca. (ELIMINATED)

    • There was no Fast Forward in this leg and none have been aired so far in this season.

    • Yield: This leg contained the first of three Yields of the race. However, no one decided to use it on anybody.

    • This episode is the first time in at least a couple seasons that a prize was not awarded to the team finishing first on anything other than the final legs.

    • This episode features the first instance where a team choses not complete a Roadblock task as a strategy and then attempts to and successfully convinces other teams to follow suit. The new procedure is that a team that quits a task takes a four-hour penalty that begins once another team arrives at the task.

    • During his opening prattle, Phil does not make the usual reference to teams having to "solve clues found in sealed envelopes." This would become the practice in later seasons of the program as well.

    • Phil does not mention what time Rob & Amber arrived at the previous episode's Pit Stop, which he normally does for the first team to leave the Pit Stop at the beginning of a new leg. It is normally 12 hours before they leave. Some possible time penalties or credits might have been given to the team, although no explanation is given.

    • Balance Sheet: Lynn and Alex move up from fifth to first. Uchenna and Joyce move up from fourth to second. Brian and Greg move up from ninth to third. Ron and Kelly move down from second to fourth. Rob and Amber move down from first to fifth. Ray and Deana move down from third to sixth. Meredith and Gretchen and Susan and Patrick remain in the same placings that they were in the previous leg. Debbie and Biannca move down from sixth to last and are eliminated.

    • Roadblock: "Who's not a vegetarian?" was the clue teams were given to help them decide who should perform the Roadblock. One member from each team had to eat 4 pounds of meat which consisted of cow ribs, pork sausage, blood sausage, cow intestine, cow udder, a kidney, and part of a saliva gland in one of the race's most-talked about Roadblocks known as the "Meatblock." Alex, Ron, Uchenna, Greg, Patrick and Debbie completed the Roadblock. Rob, Deana and Meredith attempted the Roadblock. Rob did not want to finish the Roadblock and quit. However, he did not want to be eliminated, so he convinced Deana and Meredith to do the same.

    • Detour:
      Rob/Amber, Lynn/Alex, Meredith/Gretchen, Ron/Kelly, Ray/Deana, Uchenna/Joyce, Susan/Patrick, and Debbie/Bianca chose "Paddle", where they had to team with river guides to paddle a raft down a seven-mile course.
Brian/Greg chose "Pedal", where they rode mountain bikes along train tracks overlooking the river, duplicating the same seven miles.

    • This is the 1st of 5 episodes where Gretchen says the title of the episode. She said the most of anyone during this season of The Amazing Race.
