Episode Summary

The four remaining teams take off from Singapore and are instructed to fly to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and once there, they must search for the Ho Chi Minh Statue at the Rex Square.
All teams catch the same flight into Ho Chi Minh City.
Teams eventually make it to Rex Square and read their next clue, instructing them to cross the Mekong Delta.
Teams then face a Detour which involves easy buying or hard selling.
Once completed, they must then return to Ho Chi Minh city and find their next clue near the Saigon.
There, teams discover a Roadblock, requiring the chosen person to transport their team member on a cyclo across the river and then check into the next Pit Stop.
In the end, with the possibility of someone getting eliminated, all four teams dash through the Roadblock in order to stay in the game. But unfortunately it's too late for one team and they step onto the mat in last place. They have indeed been eliminated, leaving the final three.moreless

  • Derek and Drew went out of the race in an emotional elimination. But yes, the episode was great because of the tension and suspense

Well, it comes down to this, this episode marked the first and only time out of the first twelve seasons that no non-elimination took place on four teams remaining, for better, and worse.

The four remaining teams left Singapore and headed for Ho Chi Minn City, Vietnam, one of the more emotional countries of the world. Ok, now I am starting to get tired of Flo, always yelling at bickering with the guy who has always been nice to her; Zach. Other teams like Teri and Ian surged ahead and became the first team to make it into the final three, while Flo and Zach caught up, finishing second and Ken and Gerard who narrowly escaped elimination came in third place. It was one of the saddest endings on the history of this show. One team who have almost nearly been excellent on the race failed to locate a clue for a Roadblock and only had the hope of this being the third and final non-elimination round, but as Phil said earlier, this was an elimination leg. That marked this first and only time that no non-elimination leg appeared on four teams remaining, for better, because of the suspense that no one was expecting it. For worse, obviously Derek and Drew's hope to stay in the game at last place. My favourite team is Teri and Ian, but I'm starting to have second thoughts about Flo and Zach. I can't stand her whining and constant yelling at Zach.

Ken and Gerard are a great team. It was a sad moment, the end. I'll outline the details of the leg, a nice Detour, I would have chosen the "Hard Sell" after watching. A nice choice of tasks. The Roadblock was great! The country, I'm not too keen on but Ian's emotions toward Vietnam raised some serious questions about the war.

Overall, a great/impressive episode with a fair outcome and nice tasks. The country was alright. Now, I'm in suspense for the two-hour season finale.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (6)

    • Ken/Gerard barely made the last flight of the night from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur. Flo/Zach and Derek/Drew were on an early morning flight, followed soon by Teri/Ian. However, they all ended up on the same morning flight from Kuala Lumpur to Ho Chi Minh City.

    • Balance Sheet: Teri and Ian move up from fourth to first. Flo and Zach move up from third to second. Ken and Gerard move down from second to third. Derek and Drew move down from first to last and are eliminated.

    • The teams finished in the following order:

#1. Teri and Ian. (Prize: 7 Night European Vacation)
      #2. Flo and Zach.
      #3. Ken and Gerard.
      #4. Derek and Drew. (ELIMINATED)

    • There was no Fast Forward on this leg because all the remaining teams have already used their one and only Fast Forward.

    • Detour:
Ken/Gerard, Teri/Ian, and Derek/Drew chose "Easy Buy," where they had to hire a sampan to search a floating market for the one vendor selling water coconuts, and buy one. Ken/Gerard, frustrated by a rainstorm, quit and joined Flo/Zach in completing "Hard Sell," where they had to carry a fruit-filled shoulder basket and sell 40,000 dong worth of fruit. This was roughly $2.50, with each piece selling for approximately 6¢.

    • Roadblock: One team member was required to board a cyclo bike and transport their teammate through a marked path, over a ferry and to the Pit Stop. Ian, Zach, Gerard and Drew completed this Roadblock.

  • QUOTES (12)

  • NOTES (2)

    • This is the only season as of the twelfth that has not included a non-elimination leg on four teams remaining.

    • To avoid confusion with the multitude of pre-existing banners in red and yellow, Vietnam's national colors, flags for this leg of the race were yellow-only.

    • Seeing that they had met up with Ken/Gerard at the airport in Kuala Lumpur, both Derek and Drew sinisterly said, "excellent," in a manner imitative of The Simpsons' Mr. Burns.
