Episode Summary

EDIT

The eight remaining teams depart from the floating village of Koh Panyi near Phuket, Thailand with Liz and Marie knowing a Speed Bump awaits. Teams take elephants to a Roadblock, requiring racers to home in on a traditional flautist's song to find a waterfall's base and dive for their next clue. Directed by that clue to a local shop in Song Prak, teams take apart a model shrine and deliver it to Wat Chanathigaram temple, where another Roadblock awaits, requiring whoever did not do the first Roadblock to reassemble the shrine to receive their next clue, directing them to take a bus over 500 miles to Bangkok. Once there, teams head to Bangkok Noi Canal to feed fish and get a clue directing them to the Pit Stop: the M.R. Kukrit Heritage Home.

would you want to do a physical task or something cerebral after 13 hours on a bus ? I seriously doubt you'd have the energy of the patience.. especially with a crying baby in the back..

lol at the team adventure dad/son getting of a bus that was totally fine i figured as much... the teams money is there to be spent (of course the risk of spending more to get there quicker but may need some later on) nice of phil and the editor to show that bit.

true feeding fish was a bit lame but it was a simple task maybe there to help lift the spirits of the teams after 13 hours on a bus.

team blonde where starting to annoy me with their over enthusiasm with everything.. wow talk about sheltered lives...

more proof if needed that teams should read clues and even the rule book... maybe even AVOID TAXI'S 140-150 dollars for that ride ? wow daylight course the economy is bad so a nice fat tip here and there won't hurt these less fortunate people... but the teams are so easily the shows makers happily give them enough money to do it...

elephants are cute n all i wouldn't whoop n scream over them..

  • What an awful leg structure, although this leg was saved by a rather interesting and awesome challenge! (Spoilers ahead!)

    9.5
Well, there is a lot to criticise about this episode, and there are a few minor positives to also note. I do not think that this was a particularly good episode in many aspects, and beyond doubt, this was my least favourite episode of the season thus far.

The first Roadblock was exceptionally simplistic and rather pointless. Swimming to the bottom of a pool of water to pick up a clue; what a waste of a challenge!

However, the second Roadblock was definitely one to savour! Easily the best part of this episode, I loved the fact that they had to reassaemble the spirit house and was amazed that so many teams had not considered such an event occurring, although in most cases, one team member did want to take note.s

The positives almost stop right there. Firstly, WHY on earth were ALL challenges done in Phuket and then the teams were instructed to travel 13 HOURS by bus to Bangkok, just to FEED FISH and check into the Pit Stop!?!?!?! The hardwork of most teams was undone and it was a complete waste of a leg!

There was also close to zero Suspense. Liz & Marie were given a little too much screen time, and started too fa r behind to stand a chance, even with the editing.

Great to see Amani & Marcus rope home a victory! I really love them, and they are my clear favourites! Also terrific to see Bill & Cathi snag second!!!

The one other positive that I have to offer to this episode is that there was a lot of great drama in the latter stages, with Ernie & Cindy's tirade at the taxi driver, Liz & Marie's financial meltdown, Jeremy & Sandy's navigational breakdown and Andy & Tommy's dileemmma.

All up, not an impressive episode for me. I expected to see more, and I ddid not expect such awful structure for aleg.

Hoping for things to improve in Malawi; that should be beautiful and picturesque, and I can't wait to see what will happen!

Glad to leave Asia finally; Leg 3 was good, but not too impressed with the rest.

Farewell to Liz & Marie! I have loved this team, and although they performed poorly in the pool for me, I still loved watching them! I particularly loved them at the Speed Bump today! They were as ecstatic as little kids seeing an elephant, which was really awesome to see!

Will definitely be backing Marcus & Amani from this point forth.moreless
  • It was superior to the previous leg, but still many miles off a decent watch

    5.5
Ooh boy. I don't even know what to say. Just really disappointing nineteenth season so far. There is just absolutely nothing special about it, though I do like the majority furtteams.

This leg was obviously planned at the last minute. There was hardly anything to enjoy about it. The TWO Roadblocks twist was actually pretty good, but the first Roadblock stunk. Riding elephants did not raise the goodness of all the flaws that came from the rest of the task, like swimming down to the bottom of the pool.

I also really dislike the fact that there are no clue boxes this season. It really feels like the very first edition of The Amazing Race when they were still setting up the show and preparing. The second Roadblock was actually very interesting, re decorating the statue thing, and having teams go back to look at the completed again.

What Lawrence & Zac did in regards to taking a first class bus and then thinking it was false was actually kind of hilarious. They could have been eliminated today, but weren't thankfully enough. I still wish that Ethan & Jenna were still in, and especially Ron & Bill. Personally some of the weaker more boring teams have progressed further, and it absolutely stinks.

Anyway, the race then continued to Bangkok for an absurd task of feeding the fish and then, lets JUST head to the next PIT STOP shall we? No Detour of course, and a few teams get lost in Bangkok and with taxi & money issues. Liz & Marie had no money, had to walk, ended up getting a free ride but were STILL eliminated. Jeremy & Sandy performed terribly today, and in the end it was either amazing_race - my great mate or me getting eliminated from the TAR 19 pool. The finishing order this leg otherwise was very positive, and different. It was nice to see a change in the outcome nevertheless.

Overall however, the good aspects do not come out well over the negatives, and to call this and the previous leg in Phuket two of the worst legs in TAR history is no understatement. What the hell is up with Phil Keoghan's Amazing Race? Needs serious adjusting or even the Australian edition is going to surpass this.

On a veeeeeery positive note, next week leaves Asia after five average legs and sends the seven remaining teams to Malawi. I can't wait, hope they perform better.moreless
  • Better than last leg. (SPOILERS AHEAD!!!)

    8.5
    Placements of Teams + Thoughts:

#1: Amani & Marcus - Surprising win! Happy for them! However, I wish Bill & Cathi had won the leg, but whatever, because I'm happy Andy & Tommy did NOT win this leg.

#2: Bill & Cathi - FINALLY!!! Finally!!! These guys place higher than boring old lucky 7th. Too bad they didn't get 1st, but like I said, glad that Andy & Tommy didn't win this leg. But Bill & Cathi been strong, and I hope they continue to be!

#3: Ernie & Cindy - I'm somewhat glad that these guys didn't win this leg, I just wanted to have a different team win. I'm starting to dislike them less, however.

#4: Justin & Jennifer - Not much to say about this team as they weren't shown much. Pretty weird they thought they were 1st.

#5: Andy & Tommy - Hilarious (but scary for them) moments especially towards the end of the leg. What happened was they asked a lady for directions (she looked formal) and she went upstairs. Andy & Tommy are later told the same lady is teaching a class upstairs. That was funny! I was surprised they beat Laurence & Zac and others to the Pit Stop.

#6: Laurence & Zac - Even though they got a lot of screentime this episode, I still think they're nothing interesting. They are boring and should go out soon.

#7: Jeremy & Sandy - Boy, the editing at the end made it look like they were out. I'm somewhat disappointed they survived, however.

#8/Last: Liz & Marie - Sad they're out. They were really working hard this leg and did not stress out like last leg. They really overcame having no money and still almost survived. I'm quite sad they're out.

    Thoughts on Tasks:

Roadblock (2): Finding a bag in the water & decorating a tower-like thing (I forgot what it was) - There were two Roadblocks since this leg/last leg were planned at the last minute. However, I found the first Roadblock to be boring, but the second was quite interesting but nothing special since there was no suspense at that point. They brought the score a little down.

Detour (None): There's probably not going to be a Roadblock in the next episode, and a Detour and extra tasks only in the next. But, whatever.

Speed Bump: Washing elephants - I found it quite interesting Liz & Marie liked their Speed Bump. I'm glad they enjoyed it at least, most other teams would want to get over it so badly.

Bus: I'm glad this bus business was in this episode, otherwise Andy & Tommy would have gotten 1st again. Also, the buses helped change a lot of placements. Laurence & Zac's mistake was minor, so I didn't care.

Extra Task: Fish Feeding - Boring, but at least they helped the fish. They brought the score way down.

Overall a better-planned-at-the-last-minute leg. It felt long, but it was sorta boring.moreless
