Episode Summary

EDIT
The six teams depart from the Pit Stop in Marrakesh and learn that they need to fly to Munich, Germany, 1,500 miles away. Once there they must make their way to a statue called Friedensengel and locate Kasperle, a famous German and Austrian children's puppet to find their next clue. Teams scramble for flight connections while others get standby tickets. Once there, teams are told to travel 50 miles by train to Innsbruck, Austria where teams discover a Fast Forward, involving a surfer. For one lucky team, this break allows them to travel directly to the Pit Stop. The other five teams encounter a Detour involving either going bobsledding or completing a relay race. Upon completing the task, teams next arrive at the Roadblock location where one team member must descend 230 feet on rescue cable to receive their next clue. All teams excel on this task. Near the end, teams find themselves in a foot race against other teams to avoid last place and a possible elimination, but one team stumbles, costing them the race.moreless

  • The best episode since Portugal, a simply epic leg from start to finish

    8.5
Unlike the previous two legs which were based in Morocco which I found to be a little less exciting than when teams were in places like Scotland and Portugal, this leg offered an epic story and I can say it was exciting from start to finish. I was satisfied with the outcome but mostly, the locations and task design.

The six remaining teams set off from Marrakesh and made their way from Casablanca to Munich and then onto Austria. Really, the only downside with this leg was of course, Andre and Damon being in last place the whole time and the fact that there was still no sign of a single non-elimination leg. I really thought the non-elimination round would appear last leg or this, It must be the next. Still, this leg was too great for any of the downsides to take over. I enjoyed the Detour, I would have liked to see the other Detour task involving skating but oh well. This issue of one Detour being easier than the other task was mentioned in a discussion board and in which I totally agree with.

Flo and Zach going for the Fast Forward was a good choice, and I'm pleased they won.

Teri and Ian are probably my favorite team because of their determination to never give up, they keep on trying. I like Ken and Gerard, real boys with a sense of humour. Though, Andre and Damon getting eliminated was a tearjerker, but life moves on. Overall, the best episode so far on Season 3, next week is bound to a non-elimination leg.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (7)

    • Only Teri/Ian departed early enough to catch a flight from Marrakech to Europe, connecting in Zurich before heading on to Munich. Flo/Zach, John Vito/Jill, Ken/Gerard, and Derek/Drew flew to Casablanca. There, Ken/Gerard, Derek/Drew, and John Vito/Jill were able to get to Munich via Paris, while Flo/Zach caught a later flight connecting through Frankfurt. Andre/Damon took a taxi to Casablanca and caught a much later flight to Paris, where they were trapped overnight before heading on to Munich.

    • Most teams performed the entire leg into and back out of Austria. Flo & Zach, however, completed the Fast Forward clue (located in Munich) and thus stayed in Germany.

    • Balance Sheet: Flo and Zach move up from second to first. Derek and Drew move up from fourth to second. John Vito and Jill move up from fifth to third. Teri and Ian move down from first to fourth. Ken and Gerard move down from third to fifth. Andre and Damon remain in last and are eliminated.

    • The teams finished in the following order:

#1. Flo and Zach. (Fast Forward, Prize: One Kodak Easyshare digital camera each)
      #2. Derek and Drew.
      #3. John Vito and Jill.
      #4. Teri and Ian.
      #5. Ken and Gerard.
      #6. Andre and Damon. (ELIMINATED)

    • Detour:
Teri/Ian, Derek/Drew, Ken/Gerard, and John Vito/Jill chose "Sled," where they rode a wheeled bobsled down the track used for the Innsbruck Winter Olympics of 1964 and '76. No team chose "Skate," where they would have done a relay with professional speed skaters. Flo/Zach bypassed the Detour via the Fast Forward. Hopelessly behind after being trapped in Paris overnight and sleeping through the train stop at Innsbruck, Andre/Damon were sent directly to the Pit Stop without completing the Detour.

    • Roadblock: One team member had to descend 230ft on a rescue cable from a gondola. Teri, Drew, Jill and Ken completed the Roadblock. Flo and Zach skipped the Roadblock via the Fast Forward and Andre and Damon, so far behind, were told to go directly to the Pit Stop upon arrival in Austria.

    • Fast Forward: Teams had to find a surfer doing a standing wave at the Eisbach River and attract his attention to get their next clue. Flo and Zach completed this Fast Forward.
