Episode Summary

The five remaining teams receive a clue in Ethiopia telling them to travel by a charter flight to Addis Ababa and then make their way to the Ethiopian stadium. Once there, all teams take part in a four-person relay race, teaming up with pairs of Ethiopian runners. Next, the teams make their way to Colombo in Sri Lanka, 3,600 miles away. There, the teams make their way by tuk tuk to their next clue where they encounter a Detour - "Tree Trunks" or "Elephant Trunks." Most teams complete "Tree Trunks" which involves climbing and careful balancing. The "Elephant Trunks" task requires patience while playing croquet and riding on an elephant. Once completed, the teams make their way to Kandi and from there, a clue tells them to make their way to Lion Rock. In this Roadblock, one person must climb a thousand steps to the top of a mountain and then use binoculars to search for the location of the next Pit Stop. After another very unfortunate mistake, one team is eliminated from the race, leaving only four remaining.moreless

  • This episode was very original, with an emotional ending and I found it to be another improvement over the previous episode, however, one equalizer placed near the end spoiled it for Lori & Bolomoreless

This episode began with Phil the host telling us that the next leg would be filmed in Sri Lanka several weeks before a Tsunami.

I thought this was one of the most entertaining episodes so far in this season because there was alot of competition and knowing that if any team made a single mistake it could cost them the race. Also, the hated girl Kendra got herself sick from eating Ethiopian food!

This kind of send them to the back of the pack but that's good because I hate stupid Kendra.

-In a very interesting challenge teams had to perform a relay race which had never happened before and watching the Ethiopian runners was funny, then in Sri Lanka in a detour teams had to climb a tall tree which teams found difficult. Freddy & Kendra were the only ones opting to go for the other Detour which was an Elephant ride of some sort because she was still quite ill. Then just before the pit stop teams had to climb to the top of a mountain in a Roadbloack and then locate the next route marker from the summit of the mountain. Once having located the Route marker teams had to go there and swim a length of a pool before checking in to the next pit stop. As teams checked in, It became a two way race between Adam and Rebecca, and Lori and Bolo but Lori lost her ticket to gain access to the top and this very unfortunate mistake cost them the race! It was sad to loose them because they were one team who truly gave it their all and I'll miss them. But now we're left with four and only one two decent teams remain: Adam & Rebecca and Kris & Jon, I hope one of those two win the million.

Overall this would've been one of the best episodes since teams were in Hungary, however, one equalizer near the end spoiled it. Still, very great.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (9)

    • The teams finished in the following order:

#1. Kris and Jon. (Prize: Vacation to Romantic Europe, compliments
      #2. Hayden and Aaron.
      #3. Freddy and Kendra.
      #4. Adam and Rebecca.
      #5. Lori and Bolo. (ELIMINATED)

    • Adam and Rebecca had actually finished the leg in second place. However, they did not swim the length of the pool as per the instructions. Because the race was very close at this point, this caused them to fall to fourth place.

    • This episode featured a dedication from Phil at the top of the episode:

The following episode of The Amazing Race
      was filmed in Sri Lanka
several weeks before a deadly tsunami
      struck the region.

      We dedicate this episode to
      the memory of the thousands
of people who lost their lives
      in this terrible tragedy
      and to our courageous
      friends and co-workers in
      the region who are coping
      with its aftermath.

At the end of the episode, Phil urged viewers to visit to found out how they could help with the relief effort.

    • The Yield was not made available in this episode. Both Fast Forwards have already been used.

    • Kendra is physically ill during the beginning the leg and is heard vomiting.

    • Balance Sheet: Kris and Jon move up from third to first. Hayden and Aaron move down from first to second. Freddy and Kendra move up from fourth to third. Adam and Rebecca move up from fifth to fourth. Lori and Bolo move down from second to last and are eliminated.

    • The official The Amazing Race website has an extended version of Lori and Bolo's fight at the Roadblock. Lori and Bolo were screaming and using the F-Bomb at each other, offending Hayden. Kris also talked further that they showed disrespect to the "Buddhist culture" of the Sri Lanka culture and showed poor sportsmanship.

    • Roadblock: To complete this Roadblock in Sigiriya, Sri Lanka, one team member must climb over 1,000 steps to the top of Lion's Rock. Next, using binoculars to scan the jungle from the vantage point 600 feet above the ground, they must spot a flag, descend Lion's Rock an with their partner, find the flag, swim the length of the pool next to it, and check into the Pit Stop.

This is a list of the people who completed this Roadblock:

Jon, Adam, Freddy, Lori and Aaron

    • Detour:
Lori/Bolo, Kris/Jon, Hayden/Aaron, and Adam/Rebecca chose "Tree Trunks", where they took a tuk-tuk two miles to a coconut plantation. Once there, both team members had to climb 50' up a tree, cross a rope bridge between trees, retrieve a jug of sap, and return to the ground to get their next clue.
Freddy/Kendra chose "Elephant Trunks", where they took a tuk-tuk 2½ miles to a polo field, and both had to mount an elephant and guide a polo ball down the field and back, ending by scoring a goal.
