Episode Summary

The five remaining teams continue on to Switzerland for the eighth leg. A romantic bond develops between two different team members causing an alliance. When teams arrive in Switzerland they are given a Detour which involved money. Both tasks seem to be quite frustrating for all teams. One team falls behind due to making a costly mistake. Later on, the teams face a Roadblock involving Archery. Most teams are able to complete the task without too many problems. The race to the Pit Stop is a close foot-race for two teams but one could not make in time resulting in their last place finish. However, they receive some great news when they learn that this is the first of three pre-determined Non-Elimination legs.moreless

  • An episode with exotic locations like no other before, a great outcome and a nice lucky break for John Vito and Jill. Impressive show tonight...

This episode of the show showed us the amount of tension between all five teams. As no one was eliminated in this non-elimination round, the teams are well aware of future possibilities, meaning the next leg where someone will go home.

The five remaining teams departed Austria and made their way to Zurich, Switzerland where teams faced a money-like Detour that wasn't exactly my favorite nor that interesting but the scenery along with the fact that teams are turning against one another made this an exciting episode. So, Flo began to flirt with Ken but thinks highly of Drew as being very attractive. This leg was quite interesting in the fact that "You never know what's going to happen next?". The teams positions are constantly changing while relationships between teams with other teams are unpredictable.

I was quite satisfied with this leg's outcome but I'd have prefer it if Flo and Zach won instead of Derek and Drew. John Vito and Jill coming in last and not getting eliminated in the first of three pre-determined non-elimination rounds put the other teams at risk. Five teams still remain, but the next elimination looms.

Overall, an impressive leg with position change, stunning scenery like the last leg and a fair outcome.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (5)

    • Balance Sheet: Derek and Drew move up from second to first. Flo and Zach move down from first to second. Teri and Ian move up from fourth to third. Ken and Gerard move up from fifth to fourth. John Vito and Jill move down from third to last but are not eliminated.

    • The teams finished in the following order:

#1. Derek and Drew. (Prize: One Kodak Easyshare digital camera each)
      #2. Flo and Zach.
      #3. Teri and Ian.
      #4. Ken and Gerard.
      #5. John Vito and Jill.

    • Roadblock: For this leg's Roadblock, one team member had to relive the story of Swiss folk hero Willian Tell by using a bow an arrow to shoot an apple of a child's head. In this case, the "child" was a mannequin. Each team also had to choose an instructor to help them with the crossbow. Once they knocked the apple off the dummy, they would receive their next clue. John Vito, Ian, Derek, Zach and Ken completed this Roadblock for their respective teams.

    • Detour:
Ken/Gerard briefly attempted "Count the Money," where they counted a jar of Swiss currency, both coins and paper currency, whose total would add up to the combination of a safe containing their next clue. They aborted and joined all other teams in completing "Run the Numbers," where teams had to solve three problems in the town of Lindenhof, which strung together would also make the safe combination.

    • Although each leg contains a Fast Forward, no one chose to go for it this round so the task remained unaired and unknown.
