The Americans "Gregory" Review: The Heart Is a Lonely Spy Hunter

"Gregory" was a mostly solid episode that briefly sacrificed momentum in favor of addressing broader plot points.

    • Pretty good!

      9.5
This episode was quite interesting as we finally get more info on somebody who died very early along, and we also meet a new character who could potentially be quite interesting.

There were some really interesting events throughout, and while the show is still developing, I did quite enjoy this episode and I think it is getting better with each passing week. Hopefully it continues that way!

While this show is still finding its footing and pace, tonight's episode displayed why every single week is not going to be ripe with action and is not going to have the most entertaining plot. This certainly was not the most exhilarating story, but it did keep me entertained, and again we got to learn more about what these characters are like, beyond their alliance to the Mother Land.
    • Solid tradecraft moments, while still developing the characters

      8.0
It's hard to ask for more out of a show that's only three episodes old. I just can't get enough of the tradecraft. Keep it coming.

Eager to see how they develop the Missile Shield plot in a manner that will truly affect Philip and Elizabeth. It would be a shame if they continue to run borderline suicide operations without getting a hint of the larger implications.
    • Terrific Spy drama!

It's so good - hard to wait a whole week for the next episode.

      Thanks, FX

    • QUOTES (2)

      • Phillip: You've been following me since I stepped outside. Now I've circled around, you don't have a support team, so whoever you are, you're on your own, right. You have 60 seconds to tell me who you are and what your want or I will snap your neck and I will move on with my day.

      • Amador: He walked into a hospital with no ID, no wallet and no keys in his pocket. Fit, Healthy...
Stan: Except for the gaping stab wound in his kidney.
        Agent Gadd: Except for that.

    • NOTES (1)

    • ALLUSIONS (1)

      • Agent Gaad mentions that this was the closest they had got to a KGB agent on American soil since they got Rudolph Abel in 1957.  'Rudolph Abel' was an alias used by a KGB agent named Vilyam Genrikhovich Fisher, who was found guilty of spying in the USA in 1957 and sentenced to 45 years imprisonment.  He was exchanged for US U-2 pilot Gary Powers four years later.
