  • SPIES ARE PEOPLE TOO

The Americans "Only You" Review: To Love Somebody

"Only You" was a heart-wrenching hour that demonstrated how investing in humanity pays off in a war normally fought with weapons and intrigue.

  • Episode Summary

Stan unknowingly gets closer to Phillip and Elizabeth when he follows a lead that will point him towards one of Gregory's crew.

    • Getting good.

While the episode itself was not perfect, it is moving in the right direciton and many aspects of the storyline are finally coming together.

Things were interesting on a personal and professional basis as the FBI hunts Amandor's killer while obviously Phillip & Elizabeth try to avoid detection.

I hope the show continues to move forward with more action. I feel like it's improving but still not perfect.

The ending with the shootout at the end felt like something pulled from "The Wire" and while many would love that, I always found the series to be a bit overrated. The episode was okay, but I don't think it will end up as memorable when all is said and done.

I have a question about the closing montage which featured the song "You Don't Know What It's Like" was not the BeeGees version but a slow, jazzy femail vocalist. Who sang that version?

      • Agent Gaad: We are going to take every resource we have, every ounce of energy and focus and we are going to hunt for whoever is responsible for what happened to him. And we are not going to rest until they are behind bars. Or even better, until we zip them up into a body bag.

      • Phillip: How did you know I was here?
Stan: If I can't find a travel agent staying in a motel under his own name, then I'm in the wrong line of business...Elizabeth told Sandra.

      • Stan: [Amador]was never married. Maybe that was it.
        Phillip: What?
Stan: He had no secrets. You know? You can't be married and not have secrets. Can you Phil?
        Phillip: No, you can't.

      • Phillip: What happened?
        Stan: He was stabbed.
        Phillip: Who did it?
        Stan: Bad guys.

      • Stan: You listen to me, you piece of shit. You may think you know what I am or what I will or won't do in this situation. But you have no idea.

      • Stan: You know, I only have one real question for you, Curtis. Which is, do you have any idea what it is that you have been doing? Because if you do know, then keep your mouth shut. That's how bad it is.

      • Stan: You and I don't have much in common.
        Curtis: No shit!
Stan: But we're both god damn Americans, right? Right?

      • Claudia: Do you know why I'm the best at my job? I'm a guard dog. I don't take any chances with the people I protect. That's why they send me, an old lady, half way around the world to do this.

      • Phillip: Did you tell him how lovely Moscow is in the spring?
Claudia: Some people just aren't cut out for foreign travel.

      • Stan: (to Sandra) The world that we live in is a little darker and a little uglier that I think you know.
