  • Otis gets his day!

An excellent episode where we see a great deal of Otis, the town drunk. The classic exchanges between Barney and Otis are, well, CLASSIC and hysterical! The episode begins with a great deal of attention to Otis and trying to establish his level of sobriety. It then switches to the townspeople waiting to learn who is the descendant of a celebrated hero (Nathan Tibbs) from Mayberry in the American war of revolution. Barney is convinced it is him, and pulls out his family tree (don't miss the scene with Barney trying to link himself to Duncan Phyfe "a carpenter" he says!). The discovery that Otis Campbell is actually the descendant is hysterical. What makes this episode so special is the speech that Otis gives when he receives the plaque--completely sober and very sweet. His speech brings a tear to the eye and a sweetness to this episode that is very special.
