Although this episode hasn't really been done before, it FEELS that way. Barney and Andy go on the bus (!) to the big city on business (complete with Aunt Bee's bag of sandwiches). Barney and Andy are trying to obtain more equipment and financial support but unfortunately because they haven't made any big arrests they are not in line for receiving any assistance. Barney makes up his mind to catch a criminal so they can make a "big splash". The inevitable bumbling occurs--and there are no real belly laughs in this episode. It always seems to me that when they leave Mayberry they also seem to lose their charm as well. Not one of my favorites--but still well done, just a little too pat for my liking.moreless

Aunt Bee: Wait, I almost forgot. (goes to the kitchen)
      Barney: What'd she forget?
Andy: Well, I'll bet you a quarter she forgot a brown paper sack full of sandwiches. I never been on a trip in my life I didn't have to carry a brown paper sack full of sandwiches.

  • NOTES (1)

    • First episode to take place outside of Mayberry. With the exception of a brief prologue scene (which is edited out of most TV versions), the entire episode takes place in Raleigh.
