  • Elizabeth Montgomery ??? Season 5 Episode 24

    7.0
This girl from Season 7, Episode 20 doesn't look nearly as much as the girl in Season 5, Ep 24. She looks so much like her I just can't believe it isn't. Someone tell me if I'm wrong.
  • An old girlfriend moves back to Mayberry and stays at the Taylor place while her place is being made ready. When Helen gets jealous, Andy tries to defuse the situation by fixing the woman up with Howard.moreless

I haven't been able to find any information about Joanna McNeil. She has no other credits listed, but based on her appearance here I would not be surprised to learn she was the standin for Elizabeth Montgomery on "Bewitched". She's probably the best part of this episode which is just another tired "Helen gets jealous" episodes. Only this time, maybe she should be.

McNeil has an interesting dynamic and has a lot of chemistry with Andy. It might have been interesting to play this triangle over a few episodes and have Andy seriously examine his feelings for Helen. But no, this is a silly one and out farce.

Interestingly, everyone claims she moved away ten years ago and that she and Andy were quite the item. Yet Opie seems to know her. He would have been about 4 or 5 when she left. And since they state they went around for two years, its quite possible she's the first woman Andy got involved with after the mysterious disappearance or death of his wife.moreless
  • Andy tells a lie!

    6.0
We get to see the great Sheriff Taylor tell a fib--and get caught--that alone should be worth the price of admission. Unfortunately, the episode is sort of scattered and not at all focused. The notable "romance" between Howard and Alice just doesn't even make sense. The last scene with Goober seems as if it is taken from some other episode. And finally, this reminds me far too much of the episode "Andy's trip to Raleigh" where he also is suspected of cheating on Helen. Much ado about nothing.moreless
