  • The Truth about Family.

This is one of those episodes where you just KNOW they missed the mark. The wonderful actor Jack Albertson is wasted in this episode, and the narrative is simply too contrived. As the episode begins you really think you are going to see something special. Aunt Bee\'s wealthy and powerful cousin is coming to town and a big fuss is made. Turns out that the cousin is simply a flim flam man who Andy meets up with at the train station as he watches him jump off the freight train. These scenes are really well done--but after this the episode goes flat. The idea of marketing Aunt Bee\'s ice cream was clever but they never followed through. Aunt Bee learns the truth--there is never a confrontation between them. This would have lent some emotion and drama in between the laughs. The ending is contrived and just too pat. And actually there are not that many laughs with this episode. It\'s still worth watching though--for what could have been.
