  • Barney Joins the Choir in One of the Shows Greatest Episodes

Barney joins the Mayberry Choir as the tenor, but when it's revealed that he "can't sing a lick", the choir director wants to throw him out. But Andy figures out a way to keep Barney in without kicking him out... and the results are extremely hilarious.

There's a reason why The Andy Griffith Show is one of the greatest TV comedies out there, and this is one of those episodes. Had Don Knotts not been a part of this show, this show would not have been as memorable or as great as what we got. The sequence where he performs his solo alone is worth watching any day of the week. Knotts' facial expressions here is just priceless! Honestly there will never be a comedian as talented in his works as Don Knotts. He makes this episode extremely funny. Definitely gets a perfect score in my book!
  • Barney the Soloist!

One of the series best entries--and certainly a highlight of the second season. This is a very cleverly done episode and extremely well written. Barney cannot sing, and yet he somehow winds up in the Mayberry Choir--much to the dismay of all the choir members! Andy tries many approaches to gently remove him from the choir but in the end, comes up with a unique approach (that only Barney would do!) where Barney sings to a dead microphone and someone else sings his solo (unbenownst to Barney). This is a priceless and hysterical moment--that MUST be seen by all lovers of Barney and this show! A gem of an episode!
