  • Touching

The beauty of telling an entire life up to that moment in the first 10 minutes was brilliant. Ron Howard is THE most adorable child actor ever!
  • The trouble with Opie...

This is a largely meandering episode, that isn\'t written in the \"tight\" and efficient style of most episodes (particularly season 1). Although Opie is very, very cute in this episode, the episode doesn\'t always make sense. Letting a little boy wander the streets and not knowing where he is seems a little strange for Aunt Bee to do, and she seems not quite \"herself\" in this episode. Too preachy and opionated. The dramatic moment when Opie plays with at the abandoned mine shaft is anti-climatic--nothing blows up--but we are suddenly put in suspense as if something COULD happen--it\'s all so confusing. And the resolution of this episode, when Aunt Bee suddenly decides that Opie should return to visiting his father at the courthouse after school is far too pat. It\'s as though the director and the writers were not talking in this episode and each is going their own way. The direction is serious, the writing is not. Very stange indeed. Worth watching of course, because there are some cute moments--but never actually \"gets going\".
