  • Miss Ellie Meets Sheriff Andy!

    8.2
A very well directed episode, although does not hit the bull's eye often enough. Elinor Donahue as Ellie is bright and wonderful--but it is clear that the chemistry is not quite right with Andy--although there is some fun in trying to make it happen. The scene through the window between Opie and Miss Ellie is particularly well done. The episode is quite funny in spots and Andy's southern charm is very, very potent!moreless
  • Ellie is introduced early in the series first as the bad girl pharmacist only later to open up and become one of the nicest town members by honoring her uncle's prior agreements with customers.moreless

    6.2
Average episode of new girl coming to town with no prior storyline or mention of an incident creating such a need of a new person at the drug store. Have not seen much at the drug store in previous episodes showing the need for this type action. Ellie just seems as though she is trying to be a bully as the new person in town only later after having several arguments she decides to lighten up and become a very nice town member. Maybe as her being the beauty of the town in these early episodes her being nice would have probably received a higher score.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Look Close! In this episode the license plate on the squad car is DC-269 (you can see it very clearly when Andy and Barney pull up to Emma's house to deliver Aunt Bee's soup). In every other episode where you can see the license plate to the squad car the number is JL-327.

    • Ellie explains that what Fred has actually been giving Emma is a Placebo - a placebo is a preparation which is pharmacologically inert, like a sugar pill, but which may have a therapeutic effect based solely on the power of suggestion.

  • QUOTES (1)

    • Emma: Sheriff, I came to report a murder!
Andy: A MURDER! Emma, who's been murdered?
      Emma: ME!
Andy: Well Emma, there's just one teensy little problem...you ain't dead.

  • NOTES (3)

    • After this episode was filmed, the broadcast date was moved up because it was decided that Andy needed a love interest. However, following the first season, Elinor Donahue was dropped from the cast when Griffith and the producers decided the pair lacked "romantic chemistry".

    • In this episode, Andy says that he was in France during the war. Since, according to both class reunion episodes (Class Reunion and The Return of Barney Fife ), Andy didn't graduate high school until after 1946, it's not possible that he would have made it to France during the war.

    • This episode marks the first appearance of Ellie Walker, Andy's first love interest in the series. Andy always seemed to gravitate toward well educated, professional women: a pharmacist, three nurses, and finally a school teacher.
